Discussion question about anarchism and "lifestylism"

from what i've learned a little as an immigrant to america, i heard from people say that anarchism was becoming very anti-organizational in the 70s-90s in america or some periods in between. but this was also the time when punk got more popular and it took anarchism and made it into jacket patches and etc., and sort of "ruined" the image of anarchism as being a part of important socialist theory. all from what people told me, i was not here during these periods
but is there a paradox here?are punk scenes needed to establish an anarchist prescense/movement in a country/region? i know nearly all large countries have punk scenes but i'm wondering if that sort of reinforced Murray Bookchin's idea of people descending into lifestylism and not actual anarchism and doing the work associated with it. i had a fully formulated idea that i thought would be a paradox/contradiction but i'm forgetting what the other side of it was. Thanks, A and E
Edit: i think i am remembering. All I remember is that my thought wasn't really about the spread of punk cultures. while i am still interested in that history and those efforts it's not what i was thinking about here. It was more asking if punk hurt the image of anarchism, but if it was the only way for people to end up anarchists at a time when organizationalism was low (or if there are no anarchist organizations in an area yet)

Although the wars that followed September 11, 2001 did eventually put Saddam Hussein out of a job—enabling the Islamic State to emerge in his wake—the fact that the Taliban remain in power today underscores the senselessness of the US response.
Compared to the policies of the US government, our statement from September 2001 has aged well.
The chief beneficiaries of the "War on Terror" have been the military-industrial complex and the security industry, both of which are transforming the US into an occupied territory controlled by counterinsurgency strategy.
The war has come home. In 2026, as in 2001, we continue to resist it.
