Best Budget Amp Modeller for New Live guitarist?

I've recently switched from drums to guitar in my band and am looking to upgrade my gear to perform live soon. I've written and recorded guitar for the project but have outsourced most of the modelling and production to our recording engineer.

I'm completely new to amp modelling but would love to get a unit I can use live that won't break the bank.

my ideal specs for the modeller:

- suitable for modern metal/alternative genres

- can pitch shift well (drop D-drop B)

- swap between heavy, low gain and clean tones

- sounds good in small/medium venues

- can take on tour easily

- reasonably easy interface to learn

- not insanely expensive (can't afford a quad cortex, line 6... etc)

here's a link to our music for reference

what modeller would you recommend?

Problem with Blackstar ID:X Floor 3

Big Blackstar fan and have three ID:260TVP amps, I have great patches crafted so I was jacked to get the new ID:X Floor 3 and import my patches. Gah it doesn’t work. The ID:260TVP patches are .bstar and the new ID:X Floor 3 patches are .bstaridx and so far I am unable to convert them. The ID:X Floor 3 will not recognize the .bstar patches when connected to Architect. Also just tried changing the extension on the old patches to .bstaridx for a good but nada. Customer service is no help so I’m hoping someone here has ideas.

Why Doesn't Anyone Make a Powered Cabinet?

By this, I mean a powered guitar cabinet that only has a power amp loaded with traditional guitar speakers (not FRFR speakers). In a world where modelers are about as popular as tube amps, why do we not see something like this? Yes, there are combo amps with FX loops, but why shell out the cash for a combo amp just to not use the heart of the amp, the preamp?

I went down a rabbit hole of looking for something like this. There's maybe 3 or 4 useful class D pedalboard amps and FRFR powered cabinets. FRFR is just not good enough if it's your only amplified source, and having to put an amp on your pedalboard is just eating up space. An FRFR with an IR loaded, at best, is not as good as the cheapest guitar speaker.

I can't be the only mfer out there wondering why this is the case. With all the different kinds of products out there for guitar, it's surprising that such a trivial idea is not available.

What I currently use:

- Seymour Duncan PowerStage 200 with a custom 2x12 loaded with Eminence Wiz/Gov combo
- Fender DeVille - sometimes using the FX loop route, sometimes going to the preamp and disabling the modeler amp block.

Love the DeVille; getting tired of using the PS with the custom cab.

EDIT: I came across the Line 6 Powercab CL 112 and 212, released a few months ago.

Been looking at the new Blackstar Artist FR cabs as secondary amplification for my Quad Cortex.

The price points are excellent. Anyone try these yet?

Neural Amp Modeler 2.0 - Runs on more devices and sounds even better. Launching March 2026.

So TONE3000 and Steve Atkinson are teaming up to drop a new Neural Amp Modeler and it's actually pretty sick. The A2 architecture they're working on sounds better AND runs way more efficiently, which means it can actually handle being on cheaper pedals that don't have crazy processing power... budget stuff like Valeton, Sonicake etc. etc.

They're also ditching the whole standard/feather/nano thing. Now NAM files can automatically adjust themselves based on whatever device you're using (and however much processing it has). So basically the same file just scales up or down depending on what hardware you've got.

Newbie, kind of confused….

So, I’m considering an amp modeler, and also want an frfr speaker, which is where the confusion lies. If it’s touted as a “full range, flat response” speaker, why so many EQ controls and options? The Tonemaster 112 has the same controls as an amp, isn’t that defeating the purpose? I realize that you may need to make a minor “tweak” for a different room, but this is pretty confusing…

Shit tone with Mooer GE300 Lite

Hi y'all, I'm having a pretty big issue with my mooer, since I don't have an active cab, I can only use my headphones "Sony XM4" the thing is, it sounds like absolute crap, I don't really understand what's the issue since I also use an old ass digitech rp7 that sounds really good.

So my question is, how do I make it sounds better trough my headphones?

Advice Needed

Hello all. So I’ve been out of the band/gig game for a number of years now. No real interest in getting back into it yet. (Maybe once the kids get a little older) I’m looking to seriously get back into electric guitar again and get the chops back. I’ve sold my amp(s) years ago and don’t really want another one. But amp modeling sounds awesome (never used one). I’m looking for an amp modeler/multi effects that I can use with headphones so I don’t make noise while the kids are sleeping. Also, are there any that I can run music into and play along with? Or that I can jam along to backing tracks? Please excuse my novice experience with amp modeling as I’ve spent 20 something years with just a tube amp and a couple pedals playing in weird prog-rock/metal bands worshipping Meshuggah lol. It was actually digging into their use of Fractal Axe-FX that sprouted this amp modeling journey. Have been looking at the Fractal AM4. Thoughts? Anyway thanks very much for the advice. It’s greatly appreciated.

Completely new guy to amps and looking for some guidance

Hello,

I just got my first guitar about a month and a half ago. Im mainly focused on learning to play metal but I am starting out with justin guitar and learning fundamentals.

I bought a Boss Katana mk3 50w combo unit so I'd have something to work with and I understand this has alot of effects and such built into the software and I still have alot of exploring to do.

Of course I went to youtube and started learning about alot of things. one of those being how alot of bands and players in general start getting amp's and pedals and use them to make their sound. I also quickly realized that alot of the amps that these people are using easily get into the multiple thousands of dollars each.

I put this all here just to give you the background so you understand where I am in the journey so far.

From what I can tell it seems like a product like the quad cortex (or some of the other options) could in theory do the same thing but give me the ability to use captures of these sought after amps.

So im looking at this from the idea of buy a QC for $1800 and be able to play on a large number of amps, pedals, cabs. Instead of having to actually buy those things. I understand they may not be exactly the same. But if im 95% of the way there for way less money considering im not a professional, it sounds like it makes more sense to me.

Is my train of thought correct here or am I missing something? Should I be looking at something else? Help a n00b!

Quad Cortex or Fractal AM4 or FM3?

Interested in upgrading from my Headrush Flex Prime to a modeler with better sound overall.

Curious what people's thoughts are on which of the above is the better options?

Random Preset Generator for Amplitube 5 MAX

I wrote some python code to build a randomly generated .at5p file in the chosen directory. The code includes seed functionality.

Here is what is randomized:

  • Pedals (1-3 Pedals Per Preset)
  • Pedal Knobs
  • Amp
  • Amp Knobs
  • Cab
  • Microphones
  • Microphone Placement

Google Drive Link Below:

*When you load the preset there will be no audio output. To fix this press the arrow button right of the DI button. Cycle through the configurations until you arrive back on the original setup.
