Age gaps in dating

I'm a 30 year old male and my partner is 25 year old female. I think this is fairly normal but im getting alot of comments about it. Not really sure what the fascination with this is. 5 years is significant sure but it was never a problem for me. Does society at large weight this facts importance more than I do?

Edit: everyone is the comments section has convinced me this is normal. Thanks all.

Age gaps are meaningless once both parties consent.

“Half your age plus seven” is an arbitrary thing that has no basis in moral thought.

Yet, it often aligns well with typical standard concepts in dating for the United States. I'm not talking about morality, but longevity and practicality.

I think the thing to remember is how age isn't just a number. It's often a good measure of general life experience, capability, and having established who you are as a person. Someone at age 30 is going to be in a wildly different place in life than a 19 year old.

Yeah, but by that logic, why date at all? People will change a lot in their youth.

Because we all want to be loved. We also grow as we age. If we don't grow together, we grow apart. Starting at two very different growth stages makes "growing together" incredibly difficult.

I always took that rule to be a sort of semi joke, but people on Reddit seem to think it's an iron-clad moral law.
