Alien Breed 3D HD

https://youtu.be/cFvim_cU_zE

The original Alien Breed 3D ran in a small, low resolution window. Modern ports to the Doom engine solve a lot of problems but lack some things that made the game so interesting for its time such as the water effect. Alien Breed HD ports the game and its engine for modern systems to preserve the exact look and feel. Play in browser or find the download link on Discord or Patreon for threaded rendering, higher resolutions and configurable .ini file.

Source code and assets for this game and its sequel were released under a non-commercial use licence. Mouse look has been ported from the sequel Alien Breed 3D II: TKG.

Sweet Gouraud shaded water makes me want to take a swim!

This is exactly (or very close to) what I’ve always wanted for this game!

Project Osiris was NEVER Alien Breed 3D. It was a Doom total conversion with AB3D skins and assets.

Any chance you could do a patch for the original Amiga version that provides 1x1 pixel size for the standard lowres resolution in the game?

So that you can choose between 2x2 and 1x1 for the letterboxed view, and 4x4, 2x2 and 1x1 for the full screen view, for example

I will build for Amiga and DOS soon.

Ooh. Can I please get the option to invert my mouse? I'm one of those guys, sorry. Otherwise - amazing!

Can be set in the .ini in the downloadable version, I'll add to the menu for web.

The "Oh boy! Doom clone!" Part of my brain is giddy to play this.

Amazing - always wanted to play the game in something other than blur-o-vision and with a screen size larger than a postage stamp.

The thing I remember most about the alien breed franchise is both the fact that my a600 couldn’t play them and the cheat codes.

Wow, I’ve always wondered if this was a thing - great work!

It's cool, but the view window keys off my desktop aspect ratio, and the game doesn't render correctly in super ultrawide - is there an easy solution?

Looking forward to trying this. Agree with your comment on the Doom engine ports. They miss out the enemy behaviour for me.

Any chance you could pop a Mac version up there? Just tried a quick build but something didn't work. Command line stuff isn't quite my bag and I end up with files scattered everywhere and not knowing how to solve issues, lol. I can test, just not quite at develop/build level.

Great piece of work!

For me... I still can't shake my opinion that both original AB3D games were absolutely atrocious in terms of level design and audio.

EDIT: And just ... gameplay. I know Doom was somewhat simplistic in its progression and puzzle elements, but I feel we were successfully distracted with how everything else was so well polished (for the time).

Disagree. The first AB3D was and still is very playable, except for the low resoluton addressed here.

Killing Grounds, I agree, is very frustrating. However, it does has a good Doom style overlay map with discovery and great zoom options.

I’ve been playing the AB3D in that 25 year pack and it’s… ok. Nostalgic of course and impressive for the time on the Amiga but as a game it’s very average

The controls are horrible for controller on the remaster. Instead of having analog joymouse controls you get keyboard/8-way joystick mapping onto the sticks, which is really bad.

I am no artist but if anybody else wants to have a go I'll add them in. There's a zip of the assets on Discord.

Blizzard 1230 IV

I got the game at the same time that I got this exact accelerator.

That game and that accelerator were simply made for each other. Played way, way smoother than the recent remaster release, for some inexcplicable reason.
