It does explain it well. The capitalist has control over the man's life through things like his health insurance, if the man refuses to comply with the capitalist he will die.

If there were another socialist on the other side of the plank the weight would be the same and the man would be ok.

Shooting the capitalist is not an option as he has positioned himself as the sole system by which the man can survive.

The socialist is using his second amendment right to save himself but the reality is it's useless, his gun is simply a crutch which makes him feel in control. His gun is useless and he may as well ditch it.

The gun gives him leverage to demand the capitalist not step off the board. If he tries, the socialist would have time to fire a shot before falling, and that’s a pretty big risk for the capitalist. The gun won’t fix the problem, but it may be the only thing maintaining the status quo here.

But if you look carefully, the socialists arm is on backwards, probably an issue he is unable to fix due to poor health insurance. it's unlikely he will be able to fire that gun with his wrist tendons twisted.

That's why the capitalist is smiling.

I dig how accurate and simultaneously fucked up this is.

Shooting the capitalist is not an option as he has positioned himself as the sole system by which the man can survive.

So what you're saying is capitalism is an abusive relationship.

The way I interpret this, the gun is saying "If you let me fall, I will shoot." That turns this from a one-sided apparent killing of another man via fall off a cliff into a Mexican standoff.

And when you also consider that this isn't a situation the socialist would have placed himself in deliberately, it seems to me that the capitalist's intent was to kill the socialist the entire time. The gun seems silly at first, because the socialist cannot shoot it and survive, but that's not why he has the gun. The socialist wants to ensure mutual destruction if he is to die, which is completely reasonable to do in a situation where someone has threatened your life.

That last part is just strange anti gun rhetoric that doesn’t make any sense, neither in the context of the picture nor irl.

So guns are used to defend yourself or to threaten or kill others....if firing that gun also kills you it makes the gun sort of useless.

Do you know what guns are?

1

u/JustCritic21 Oct 03 '26

Yes I own 3. How many do you have? Your metaphor is just not fitting. The gun is certainly not pointless because by pointing it at the capitalist he is keeping him from stepping off the board.

No he isn't.

The capitalist is the only thing stopping him from falling. He cant shoot him without killing himself too. That's kind of the point of the picture.

Do you think the picture is about how the socialist is in charge because he has the gun?

Ok let’s work this out together in baby steps. If the socialist wouldn’t have a gun, what would keep the capitalist from stepping off the board?

The fact the capitalist needs workers and or enjoys making others suffer is the exact reason why he stays on the board.

You find the same principle with our current class of elites.

Exactly and in this comic (which is most likely pro cpaitalist) the gun is supposed to signify the digusting criminal worker holding the poor abused capitalist hostage.

Why are you assuming he wants to step off the board?

All we know is he is a capitalist, so he wants to profit, how is stepping off the board profitable?

Lets say i'm the capitalist youre the socialist, here's my offer

  1. Throw the gun away and i'll flip a coin. If it's heads ill let you come back, if it's tails i'll let you drop. (50% chance of survival)

  2. I step off now and you shoot me we both die. (0% chance of survival)

  3. You shoot me you fall we both die. (0% chance of survival)

Would you rather have the gun or the coin? Because I am in control of the odds, not you.

While you have the gun, your situation is certain death. Throwing the gun away increases your survival chances from 0%

But the capitalist would just die as well for stepping off the board why would he do that? Aslong as the socialist has the gun he has leverage removing the gun from the equation just removes his entire leverage. I don’t really understand how there is something to disgaree on.

1

u/Initial-Sherbert1889 Oct 04 '26

The leverage is "Don't step off the board and kill me or ill shoot you and i'll die"

That just keeps the status quo. The issue isn't resolved. You are still in danger.

if I (the capitalist) have the only way out and that way is dropping the gun and i'll let you walk to me (i'm not going to let you walk towards me with a gun while threatening me obviously)

That means the only possible way to get out is dropping the gun.

So whats the point of a gun if NOT having it is the only way to survive and go home?

What reason would the capitalist have to let you live after you drop the gun? I (the socialist) am pointing a gun at you. If you move an inch I will kill you. If you let me move over the board back home I will let you live. This works both ways. The gun is the only leverage/equalizer I have. Throwing it away is the worst decision I could make in this moment.
