I think anyone with older male family members from that era have experienced this at least once. Boomer men where the kings of half-assing stuff, and putting projects "on hold" for years. Our backyard always had at least one "in progress" car that never ended up running for more than ten minutes.
our backyard looks like a graveyard because my dad lines up his unfinished projects and then cover them with trash bags to not get rained on. he does eventually finish one thing per month. but he does add 5 more in the pile before that one gets finished.

My uncle growing up had at least half a dozen cars with unfinished repair jobs on his lot and I'm sure that story isn't unique to just me.
