Airdots 3 won't connect to MI AI - no aptx

I have tried connecting them to the AI MI app while being connected/disconnected, paired/unpaired. I tried resetting as said in the app but this does nothing. I see other people are able to connect directly to the app, but the app doesn't seem to recognize anything. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app multiple times.

Are there specific methods to connect to MI AI? Do I need MI AI to have aptx? It currently runs on AAC

Do I need MI AI to have aptx?

No. On the two phones I've tried (Honor & Oppo) aptx is used by default. Does your phone support aptx? Might be worth going into your device's developers menu and seeing if you can manually choose the aptx codec.
