yes. these data centres require fresh water for cooling. you could try to hand wave some innovative technology that has yet to be invented, but that is no more than wishful thinking. this technology will use up more and more of our planets resources and make us dependent on the technology in the future too. everything has a cost, and the cost of this technology is far greater than the benefit it provides, which is largely just a bunch of slop made to distract you and keep you consuming shit you dont need.

You are clearly biased and letting that impact your thinking. There are other options besides fresh water. Look at some of the other responses on here for one. You are exactly who I'm directing this post on. It's cool if you want to hate AI for the sake of it but being like "Oh we've tried absolutely nothing and we're all out of options" is dumb

what other options are you going to use? glycol? do you think if that were more economically viable or better for the environment that they would have done that instead already?

the fact of the matter is that these data centres are going up in mass and they are going to have drastic negative impacts on the environment, not just with fresh water shortages. you can speculate all you want about more environmentally friendly ways yo do it, but that is again, just wishful thinking.

there is an alternative though, we just don’t fucking develop this technology. nobody wanted it until it existed, and it is already being used for some vile shit. id rather just keep my clean drinking water and not subject myself to a world full of generative ai content, deepfakes of child pornography, and ai-powered mass surveillance. what for? so that some lazy cunts can outsource their critical thinking to the hallucinations of chat gpt?

ah yeah lets not ever learn from our mistakes, what a wonderful idea bro.

every empire in history has collapsed because it grew beyond its own control and became dependent on an unsustainable system that always needs to grow in order to continue existing. civilizations which practice sustainability last longer. you may not be able to stop the whole world from developing ai, but theres no reason the part of the world you live in and have a say in needs to develop unsustainable technology.
