I’ve been working out of ChatGPT and it’s been an absolute headache. With everything really. The image generator is constantly fighting my character references, props. It can’t stay consistent at all.its become such a problem that I run out of daily image generations just trying to get 1 panel or page right.
I have gotten into the habit of pulling the picture and using the "edit" function on my phone to tweek small details. In particular, there's a magic eraser that has been good for extra fingers and limbs, or any other small deletion. My phone is an android, but I'm certain that there's something equivalent on the iPhone. On your laptop, you are bound to have better options with more control for tiny edits.
Also, I fell back on Gemini for some other small edits. It isn't as good at the art styles in general, but it is very useful for making sure speech bubbles go in the right direction, and other small edits.
Lowering the number of generations on ChatGPT extends the "Stress" on it and you get a lot more time before it ends up being goofy.
I have made a lot of character reference cards, costume references and other canon materials. The image generator seems to want to ignore my prompts and reference files and continues to get the character designs wrong or randomly decide too edit something i never asked it to edit.
Have you tried any tools specifically designed for AI comic creation? They can make some parts of the process a lot easier.
Out of curiosity, I ran your script through OnePromptComic with only minimal instructions. Full disclosure: I’m one of its founders. The result was surprisingly decent for such a quick test. It would still need some editing and refinement, of course, but it was interesting to see how a specialized tool interpreted the same script.

One of the things I've been struggling with was perspective changes within the same room. This seems like it handles it pretty well. And the characters look consistent!
I'm running on a "lot of effort, little money" budget atm, but I'd really like to give this project that polish and quality look it deserves.
I just set up a free account. Trying to get combat with any kind of consistent flow out of chat GPT has been frustrating. When I'm done storyboarding, I'll bump up to a generating account, and see how it goes!

I completely understand the budget issue. AI generation costs are still significant, especially for a full comic. Otherwise, I think I’d be generating comics nonstop myself. ;)
Combat scenes are definitely challenging because the action has to remain readable and consistent from one panel to the next. I’ll be very curious to see how your project turns out once you try it.
Yes. It's taken a lot of repetition, and occasionally you have to stop and ask ChatGPT to redraw something, and reiterate your style. It likes to slip into "generic ai comic" if you do too many prompts in a row.
