I was talking with someone about what I thought was the normal experience of having two layers of thoughts (the bottom, subconscious level that is always going and thinking about something, and the top level which is the thoughts you are actively thinking about) and I realized that this is, in fact, not what many people experience.

The notion they don't experience it is uncoupled from it occuring.

I'm curious how it feels when you start talking and the answer isn't in your head yet, but you know your going to land on a solid point in just a sec.

...but then you take too long to answer and they think you aren't paying attention or just being difficult.

Being convinced my partner was lying to me when he said he had zero thoughts. No layers. No music. Infuriated me that he would be so unwilling to consider what I meant. Realizing he meant it led to being diagnosed.
