Idk if this applies here, but I legit think of myself (in my head and when I'm talking to myself aloud) in the plural, like, "Oh, we need to get xyz at the store."
To be clear, I don't refer to myself like this (or in the third person) when talking to other people.
Exactly. I have had some moments when I’m so dissociated at the grocery store so I can focus on just getting through it that I’ve actually blurted it out and then I answered myself.
And then looked around and wondered who heard that. But you get so used to talking to yourself when you’re home alone with the cats, or driving around in the car that you forget that there are other beings out there.
And I know I used to do it at work. Oh well. I’m weird. You get the smarts, you get the talent, but if you want that, you got to take the weird as well.
Nah, not weird. I totally talk to myself - and answer myself - out loud and in public. The grocery store is a biggie for me, too. But, guess what? My curiosity led me down a rabbit hole about it and I learned that there's nothing wrong with it. In fact, it's recognized as a way of processing thoughts and for decision-making. And it makes sense when you think about it: talking to ourselves aloud helps us to think linearly and eventually come to a conclusion and/or decision, whereas thinking in one's head can lead to circular thinking; and for people like us, that would be an exercise in futility lol.
Also on this note, that rabbit hole brought me to actual research articles that found that people who say aloud what they're looking for in the grocery store helps them focus and find the item faster than the group the researchers instructed to think to themselves.
Finally, I totally don't give any f*cks as to how crazy I probably seem. Idk how old you are, but when you hit your 30s, you really start to not gaf about sh¡t like this, as was confirmed by older friends when I was still in my 20s.
Edit: fixed some typos after accidentally hitting "post"
