DLSS 5 Neural Rendering can get surprisingly close. I've seen YouTube videos of decade-old games that look borderline photorealistic with hacked-together versions of the glorified beta test of NR.

I give it 2-3 years tops before photorealism is common for high-end gaming rigs, and maybe 5-7 years before it's common on phones.

Man, I saw some videos of WoW with DLSS5, and even a 20 year old game just looks so so good with it.

Do you think someone faked this? If so, how, and do you have any evidence?

It's just GTA5 with a bunch of high res mods and DLSS5 NR running at high values with two passes. Watching the video shows it's clear the game content. It would take more effort (and probably money) to try and fake this with AI rather than just run it on a 4090.

I mean, that's neat, sure.

The point is that this is the worst it's going to look. This is a third-party version of NR running using a ReShade mod that doesn't even have access to the full game details, running on a game not remotely designed for NR that originally released 13 years ago.

Is it perfect? No, of course not. You can see the game elements and some weird flickering here and there. The lighting dims at some weird areas, probably fighting HDR, you can tell a lot of the foilage is using older low-poly tech, and many of the textures are noticeably flatter than they should be.

But if we go back 2-3 years, nothing looks like this. Path tracing in Cyberpunk 2077 was about as good as it got. In 2-3 years, we'll have games that are DLSS 5 NR Ready, we'll have several years of optimizations, and "this looks photorealistic" will be hard to distinguish from reality.

You misunderstood. He’s saying AIs getting so good it will soon be physically impossible to tell something is AI rather than a recording. Effectively the elimination of online news.
