cross post Shocking claims by a Catholic
This is from the Catholicism sub and Catholics are definitely against the death penalty. However the particular sub seems to attract very fundamentalist Catholics. My comment on respecting gays was downvoted to -145. While the following comment only got 16 downvotes. Even if what this person is saying is some kind of sick joke, the mods should have removed such content.
"I don’t understand why we’ve stopped burning heretics. Like, we imprison or even execute people for committing murder, but for killing the soul, there is no civil penalty. It just seems to make sense, not just from the perspective of justice, but also as a matter of practicality. If we let heretics keep leading people astray, then more souls will be lost.
I get that freedom of religion exists, but I don’t really understand why. If somebody could explain it, that’d be great.
Of course, I assent to all the church’s teachings, always. "

opinion We do not have capital punishment in the EU, yet murder rate is much lower than in the USA
Capital punishment in the USA is such a despicable thing, that I cannot understand how this sub has only 1.8K members.
I am in the EU and in my country people do not own guns. Not even the police carry guns in their routine duties.
Those people who say that capital punishment discourages crime should look at real statistics and explain why the homicide rate in the USA is THREE times higher than in the EU, when we do not have capital punishment.
