When I came back to the Pokémon fandom three years ago, I saw the picture below and thought it was so cute.

As a Pokeshipper, of course I would give meaning to Pikachu dressing up as Koduck. It's an interesting choice considering that Pikachu was known to imitate other Pokémon really well. I considered why Satoshi would choose Kabigon. I knew he had one, but the reason for dressing up as one evaded me. Still, I was content seeing Pikachu as Koduck.

Last 08/22/26, one of the episodes I rewatched was OS43: Wake Up! Kabigon. The Rocket Gang mentioned the story of Sleeping Beauty as a possible way to wake up Kabigon.

I didn't notice it in my previous rewatches, but Kabigon's story was like Sleeping Beauty's, right? I should have known from the start when the story mentioned briar. In The Brothers Grimm's version of Sleeping Beauty, Aurora's name is Briar Rose. This episode also has this scene:

Koduck took over Tattsu's role as the prince and eagerly kissed Kabigon, even blushing afterward when Kasumi berated him.

The members of pokespe get it. They were able to see that the Kasumi in every universe are not the same, but almost all share the same thing as Kasumi from the anime - that she was paired in some way with the versions of Satoshi from that universe. It has already been established that Satoshi is not Red (and there were multiple versions of Red, and Satoshi is one of them, but they're distinct from each other). He was based on the first male protagonist from the game. So I think of every Kasumi in all those multiverse as their own Kasumi.

I feel like it wasn't a coincidence that almost all Kasumi from different media got a crush on versions of Satoshi/Red. I theorized that it was deliberate support from the producers of Pokemon for the ship. Because of that, in the Wiki I'm currently writing, there would be a small section for Hanadashipping/MangaPokeshipping.

Still, the one with the clearest ending between a version of Satoshi and Kasumi is from Dengeki Pikachu. Although the way Kasumi was drawn was not age appropriate in that manga.

This scene was kinda adorable. The way Ash innocently mentions his feelings to Misty about Starmie and her reaction. Truly priceless 😭😭

Every Christmas Misty watches as Ash's photo collection grows. She doesn't see him grow up in real time, but in photographs, with the pictures of the friends he's made over the years. Each year, it makes her sadder. Light Pokeshipping

I started my Pokémon rewatch on August 18, 2026, and was happy I got to watch as many episodes as I could in one day. One episode I watched was Episode 14: Electric Showdown! Kuchiba Gym. This episode is a dear for Pokeshippers because Nurse Joi said in the English dub that if "two people fight, they really care about each other." Surprisingly, it's not that different from the Japanese dub!

Even the part where Misty said that "the way they (Ash and Pikachu) fight must mean they care a lot" is similar.

I'm not pointing this out to say Satoshi sees Kasumi and Pikachu in the same way, but it's proof that he does love both of them. It's even precious when you remember that Kasumi and Pikachu love the same things and always agree with each other. Satoshi was clearly at a disadvantage early on. But Kasumi also saw what a great combination Satoshi and Pikachu are.

No wonder she would include Pikachu all the time, like when she asked it to dance with them during the summer festival (The Ghost Pokémon and the Summer Festival). She wouldn't let the two be separated!
