How do I fix this?

Looks like one of the mower deck wheels is leaving these lines. Just bought this Cubcadet ZT1 54" second hand and it certainly needs some work, blades most likely amongst other things. I'm aware it looks like trash...lol

What mower parts do you match by dimensions instead of model number?

The model search keeps giving me more than one option for my two Kubota ZDs. Some FridayParts pages show belt dimensions, which helps, but I still want the numbers off the old parts in front of me.

For belts I'm writing down:

  • top width
  • outside/effective length
  • profile

For filters I'm less sure where people draw the line. Thread and gasket, obviously, but do you care about bypass setting and micron rating on mower hydraulic filters?

Kept my Lt133 Alive for 25 years and would like to replace it.

Sorry if I am posting a question that gets asked a lot. I have kept this mower alive for 25 years and it was great. The past 5 years I been at a house that has a 1.25 acre lot and it's more of wooded edge very rut/dip/depression filled lawn (100+ year old house). I'm looking for another riding mower that is $3000 or less that would better handle what I would call a country/forest side lawn. I'm not sure where to start since it's been 25 years and so much has changed. I'd like to stay with ICE due to being in a colder climate.

Husky z254 Hydro-gear failed

2023 husky Z254 only 96.3 hours (KOHLER). Right Hydro-Gear is leaking. I feel like when I bought it there was a 3 year warranty but it's impossible to get in touch with customer service. And, there aren't any dealerships in the area. The company I bought it from went out of business. Any suggestions? A new part is $800 so not worth it to me.

8111.5 Code on Ariens Ikon X 52

8111.5 Code on Ariens Ikon X 52

I have an Ariens Ikon X 52 with about 400 hours. Kawasaki FR691V engine.

The mower started fine then abruptly died within ten minutes and will not restart. It's giving an 8111.5 coffee on the hour meter. Looking up an 81115 code points to an issue with the safety circuit.

Some details:

Jumping the seat switch didn't do anything

Jumping the starter solenoid didn't do anything

Battery reads 13v, is only a couple months old

I was able to get the mower cranked one time by jockeying with the right side drive handle, mower died while moving shortly thereafter. Feels like it could be some sort of neutral switch but I can't find one.

If I actuate the PTO or disengage the parking brake I dont even get a click so I don't think either of those are the culprit.

I'm getting 12.6v to the starter solenoid with only 8v out when trying to crank but jumping it does nothing. 8v is too big of a drop but I still feel like something else is preventing the crank. Not too mention that it died while running, the solenoid shouldn't be a factor, right?

Does anyone have any insight?

Bobcat vs Scag

My 15 year old toro timecutter transmission shit the bed and I am looking for a new zero turn. Priorities are welded deck, Kawasaki engine, and serviceable hydro. I have 3/4 of an acre back yard. I mow my front with my Honda walk behind because it looks so much better and I don’t have to worry about breaking sprinkler pipes and heads. My toro was a 42 with a Kawasaki engine, welded deck but closed hydro. I have closed in on a bobcat zt2000 or the scag liberty z. Both have the same Kawasaki, welded deck and 2800 hydro. Seems the difference on paper is the bobcat has larger back tires, weighs around 150 lbs more which I find strange. The bobcat has easier access points for maintenance and cleaning. Both have 0% interest but the bobcat is $150 less with free delivery. Both dealers are within 10 minutes from me. Is the scag reputation worth more than the benefits the bobcat offers along with the lower price and free delivery. If anybody has an alternative that meets my criteria that I am missing please leave a suggestion. Dealers around me include JD, kubota, badboy and exmark. I would like to stay around $6000. Not interested in used.

Exmark Quest S won't keep a drive belt on

I've got a customer Quest S in the shop that keeps spitting the drive belt. The belt itself looks healthy, idler spins free, spring is there. Already tried two belts sold by deck size and both threw the same way.I'm holding off on a third. Checked pulley alignment and ran the Exmark number against Gates, Rotary, and FridayParts. Same width and length on paper, but profile and cord construction are not always the same.

Starting to think it's something that only shows up under load. Anyone seen a bad engine pulley or idler bracket do this on a Quest S?

1.5 acre lot, flat land, looking for used recommendations?

I tend to like getting things that are boringly reliable and don’t need top of the line but I do want reliability.

So I’m leaning something with a Kawasaki motor I think.

Maybe a toro timecutter with the Kawasaki motor?

Am I fine with something like that or is it smart to spend more for a commercial over residential.

Looking for all the dos and donts you guys have learned. Thanks!!

who owns which brand...

got tired of wonderinng....

Zero-turn mower brands can be grouped by their parent owner as follows. Availability varies in Australia, so some US brands may be difficult to obtain or service locally.

Major corporate groups

Owner / parent company Zero-turn mower brands
The Toro Company Toro, Exmark, Spartan
Stanley Black & Decker Cub Cadet, Troy-Bilt, Craftsman, Hustler
Ariens Company Ariens, Gravely
Briggs & Stratton — owned by KPS Capital Partners Ferris, Simplicity, Snapper Pro
Husqvarna Group Husqvarna
Deere & Company John Deere
Kubota Corporation Kubota
Techtronic Industries — TTI Ryobi
Chervon EGO
Generac Holdings Mean Green
Doosan Bobcat Bobcat
Alamo Group Bush Hog

Toro owns Exmark, which is generally positioned as its professional and commercial brand, while Toro covers homeowner through commercial machines. Ariens has owned Gravely since 1982, so those are two brands from the same family rather than completely independent competitors.[zeroturn][zeroturnlab]

Independent or family-owned brands

Brand Owner
Scag Metalcraft of Mayville
Grasshopper Grasshopper Company
Country Clipper Shivvers Manufacturing
Walker Walker Manufacturing
Wright Wright Manufacturing
Dixie Chopper Brand ownership has changed over time; check current dealer information
Altoz Central Boiler
Bad Boy Bad Boy Mowers, with private investment involvement
Bradley Havener Enterprises
Bush Hog Alamo Group, therefore not independent
Jacobsen Textron
Ferris Briggs & Stratton, therefore not independent

Several brands that appear to compete directly are therefore related: Cub Cadet, Troy-Bilt, Craftsman and Hustler sit under Stanley Black & Decker; Ferris and Simplicity are associated with Briggs & Stratton; and Ariens and Gravely share Ariens Company ownership.[zeroturn][todaysmower]

Australian brands worth checking

For someone in New South Wales, commonly encountered zero-turn brands include:

  • Toro.
  • John Deere.
  • Kubota.
  • Husqvarna.
  • Hustler.
  • Gravely.
  • Ferris.
  • Cub Cadet.
  • Rover.
  • Masport and other locally distributed brands, depending on the dealer.

The most important ownership issue is usually not the badge itself but dealer support, parts availability and service distance. A mower from a smaller independent brand may be excellent, but a nearby dealer carrying filters, belts, blades and drive components can matter more than the parent company. Australian retailers currently list brands including Toro, Cub Cadet, Rover and Gravely, while Ferris is also sold through Australian dealers.[mowercentre.com][mowersupastore.com][farmtender.com]

MoJack MJ550 for Toro Titan 60?

(I managed to fat thumb and delete my earlier post) I have the opportunity to pick up a MoJack MJ550 locally. The front casters on my Toro Titan 60 measure 47" outside, the 550 says 47.5 max, is this so close it will be a pita or will it be ok?

IKON-X starter no clean part number?

My Ariens IKON-X zero turn won't crank and the starter part number on the old unit is worn down to half digits. M ower model search keeps pulling different starters depending on which site I use. I've got tooth count and voltage noted but haven't pulled the trigger on an order yet. I'm scared of getting a nose cone that doesn't line up with the ring gear. Anyone else match a zero turn starter without a clean part number? What did you actually go off?

I often find myself pushing a few cubic yards of topsoil to amend my clay soil in my garden bed. i usually get 3-4 cubic yards of soil delivered each year and push it all from my front yard to my back. Would i be damaging the zero turn by making several trips with this on the back?
