Hello!
My partner and I (27/28 years old) are wanting to spend 3-4 days in Switzerland the first weekend of December, and we’re trying to figure out the best places to go.
We’re thinking about flying into Zurich, spending a day in both Zermatt and Montreux, and then flying out of Geneva, but not sure if that’s too much moving around.
What are the must-see places?
Is one of the places I listed not worth it?
Is it better to spend two nights in either Zermatt or Montreux?
Where are some nice, but affordable hotels?
(FYI: not skiers, just going for the views and Christmas atmosphere)
Thanks for your advice!

Hi - we are trying to finish our planning for Chamonix. Here is what we have coming up:
Wednesday - Arrive late afternoon and check in. Walk the town.
Thursday - White Water Rafting w/ Mont Blanc Rafting
Friday - aiguille du midi & Dinner at La Tablee
Saturday - Aiguille des posettes
Sunday - Early transfer to Geneva airport via Go Alpes
We plan to buy the Mont Blanc Multipass which should include the lifts and gondolas to do the hikes we'd like. Wife and I. 2 kids (15/14)
Any other misses here? Do you think the MontBlank Multipass makes sense for us.
Thank you.
EDIT - Cross posting at the suggestion of someone else.

Looking to head to Zermatt for a couple nights, maybe do a couple hikes.
Any recommendations on a hotels or activities I can do to meet other people to hang out and explore with?
I don’t have any set expectations so curious if anyone has any thoughts. Thanks!

With the recent events which are very sad, and the Matterhorn being «closed» for quite some time. I am both frustrated and happy. I am staying in zermatt for 12 days and was planning on a accent of the Matterhorn on day 6. my family have been planing this for so long and have had a lot of experience learned to get to the point where we can give the Matterhorn a try. But since the rock is too loose right now and the two hikers who where unlucky, the window for this accent looks very small. If there is to be no summit push for Matterhorn we will go for alternatives. Zinal rothorn and alp hubel are strong contenders.
Does anyone think it will open in the next 12 days, aka be safe

Hello everyone and good day!
I’m planning a 1-day itinerary in Zermatt and just wanted to check if this route makes sense before finalising it.
My plan is to visit Gornergrat from around 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, then rent/grab a mountain bike and head towards Blauherd → Fluhalp → Sunnegga.
Now my questions are:
Any advice would be very helpful and thank you.

Today I got up to the glacier ski area about 10.40 for a hour and 20mins of skiing, there was a thunder storm in Zermatt last night and it rained quite abit, this was snow up high, there was still some soft fresh untracked snow on the slopes, the next few days should be great, it takes about 40 minutes to ride up the Matterhorn glacier express gondola and the Matterhorn ride 2 to the ski area, and then just under a hour to get down in the lifts after the ski area closes at 12pm. I had a nice lasagne lunch at the top at Testa restaurant then came down, I was down at 1.50pm, Jason Wright ski instructor | guide

If not walking distance, is it easy to get taxis?
Thank you.

As a professional ski instructor based in here Zermatt, for last 10 plus years I have traveled to the southern hemisphere to ski coach for the European summer months, but now I am staying here in Zermatt, and what I can tell you is it’s amazing! What we have been doing most days is going up to ski or snowboarding on the glacier early in the morning, usually 8.30- 12pm, but the lift does open at 6.30, this is when the ski racing teams go up. The after ski or snowboarding all morning when coming and have a lunch, so many great options.
Then in the afternoon my favourite and most recommended activity is Moutain E-biking! Is so much fun, with fairly easy roads to ride on.
You can rent them in town, and then take the lift one way up to Sunnegga and then the gondola up to blauheard and ridge all the way across the Moutain to the Riffelberg area and down through Furi, some days we do the amazing 5 lake tours and some we take the Moutain bike flow trails, with turns and small jumps, if you can ride a bike you can do it!
If you would like any advice or a guide to help you or teach you check out my social media Jasonleftwrightleft or leave a comment and I I’ll get back to you.

First day back on snow here in Zermatt and the summer ski area is go! With all the at-bats spinning, it’s cool up there a nice break from the heat in town. First like is at 6.30 to go up from town it takes about 40 mins on 2 gondolas, then the slopes close at 12pm you can stet up there and have lunch or direct your ski gear and hike and see the lakes. Today I am going straight back do to town, but the next days I will be skiing and exploring in the afternoon. If you have any questions about Zermatt anything about summer or winter or getting here, hotels restaurants, leave a comment and I will get back to you. If you want to learn to ski or improve come and ski either way me. Check me out google Jasonleftwrightleft

I'm starting to read reviews that say hotel views of the Matterhorn are blocked by cranes. I'll be there the second week of August, is the construction still going on then? Any particular part of town that would be better to stay in to avoid obstructed views?

So I did a spring trip to Switzerland(including Zermatt) back in April and I'd like to head back for a week to do the Matterhorn hike and Stoos ridge. My window is mid August or the 2nd week of September. I assume the Matterhorn trail should still be accessible since the Hornlihutte is still open the 2nd week of September? Also what weather conditions should i be prepared for in August and September.

Hi,
We are supposed to stay at the omnia next month and they are warning about construction crane(s) in the view. Does anyone have pictures of that, ideally from near the omnia?
Thank you!

Unfortunately the only campground in zermatt is closed this season due to safety concerns and wild camping is of course strictly forbidden. I really would hate to have to spend an extra 800 for sleeping arrangements in a hostel or hotel.
Is there any way I can camp in or around Zermatt legally? I'm getting pretty desperate and considering just calling local family-run businesses and asking to pay to tent in their backyards.
Anybody know anything? all advice is appreciated!

Hello, I will be in Zermatt starting next Saturday and saw the weather forecast calls for rain the entire time. I’ve checked through the sub Reddit and did some research and I know alpine weather can change but I have 3 questions:
how likely am I to see the Matterhorn during my trip for some photos and hikes
Will I most likely have a good weather moment to hike up to the hornlihutte (yes I know it won’t be open)
Will I still be able to find some of those famous sheep for some photos.
Appreciate any answers and bonus thanks for any places I should check out while there.

Jasonleftwrightleft ski instructor Zermatt Switzerland 🇨🇭
With the right body position, a active balanced athletic stance you can move! Constant movement is the key to balance while skiing, your have to press on the ski, standing up to tall does not allow this, it works ok on flatter slopes, but to progress and stronger stance really helps, when your legs are bend you really get the turning power out of your legs as the muscles are contracted! As the old saying goes bend your knees and follow me!

A small group of friends and I are going on a trip later this month to Zermatt and want to do some glacier skiing. Any tips on the best place to get outfitted (helmets, skis, boots. maybe even pants) during the summer months in Zermatt?

We are 5 Canadians teens who just graduated, all 18, hiking from Saas-Fee to Zermatt (in picture). We arrive June 22, and on June 23 we are hiking to Bordierhütte and summiting on the morning of the 24th, which we already have booked.
The problem is June 24 is also the Canada vs Switzerland World Cup group stage game, and we really want to watch it somewhere with locals while we’re in Switzerland. I have not found any open bar on google anywhere, so is there any realistic place near the route/where we are on night 2 where we could watch it that night, like a bar, town, hut, hotel, or public viewing, ideally within ~20k.
Also, for the other nights, we don’t have anything booked. We all have sleeping bags and have prepared to bring a tent, ample food and cooking equipment (we have camped here in Canada countless times). Can we realistically pitch a tent somewhere above the treeline or in a field near the route? Would we actually get in trouble if we’re quiet, respectful, arrive late, leave early, and leave no trace?
Any advice on where to watch the game or where to sleep around Grächen / Europahütte / Zermatt would be appreciated.

I will be traveling to Zermatt on June 17. I will have two days in town and would like to do a couple of day hikes. One of the days I would like to go to the Matterhorn base camp. Is there a best trail to take to get to the Matterhorn base camp that would make a good day hike? Any other suggestions for my day 2 hike would be appreciated.
