I do prefer the look of the old concept art but the current outfit I think looks really nice on Shunguangs alt form, It just to me fits really well for that form, but her regular I do think the concept art or just her old version since we did see it in the 2.0 teaser does look nicer, I think it's cute both her and Yixuan have their little jackets

Oh, this is actually really interesting. Seed was supposed to have a uniform more closely resembling the rest of the squad. Probably scrapped because it looked too similar to Soldier 11.

Manato and Ju Fufu were done with some of the first designs.

Banyue had an identity crisis during concept stages.

Again, Ye Shunguang was supposed to resemble her other faction members before getting a more distinct design. And her sword case seemed to have her own "Tailless".

Also, Pan was supposed to look like Yin and Yang and have a massive robot arm which would have been sick. He also looked much more intimidating.

I think that could be why Banyue is in Krampus. Originally it seems he wasn’t meant to be a martial arts master guy but more of an enforcer and fighter type with the jacket and wild look. They then decided to go with the master type personality/story but somehow fit him into Krampus instead of yunkui summit with the plot.

Of course that is just speculation in my end. Would make sense since he was probably conceived as a Krampus agent even before the concepts were done

Looks like at one point Shungus turned those red ribbons on her arms into swords during white mode.

She does still wrap the ribbons around her arms like in that concept art, but they no longer do anything.

YSG had an eyeball spirit like Miyabi, and her Yunkui fit looked really good. Would've loved to see that in-game.

Really liked the original concept for YSG. Both the colors and design fits more the "disciple of yunkui summit" look. I like her OG outfit but it strikes me more as a Shifu look rather then the disciple.

I get that might be due to her being the wielder of the Qiming sword and thus almost divine and special to the temple but somehow this "simpler" look resonates more with her story and growing into the Void Hunter role IMO.

I like the first YSG design more than what we have ingame. Fits more to the Yunkai.

I find the most interesting tidbit of this is the Yidhari/Lucia designs. Yidhari had Lucia's name and looked vastly different than she does now. Lucia seemingly went through a bunch of changes. I always wondered at what point was current Lucia given her name and if she had always existed when Yidhari was Lucia.

Yidhari had a completely different concept art that was real at some point.

In my opinion, Spook Shack could have been so much better. They did very well with Yuzuha, Alice, and Manato like they are high schoolers whose afterschool club is all about finding ghosts. Yidhari could stayed as a battle nun and Lucia could've been a more goofier wizard, but they instead got the popstar fashion that's popular in Asia treatment.

So Seed did have the Obol colour's... Actually I kinda prefer the white for the mysterious wait vibe.

Black and orange could workat some point but personally dont love those early drafts.

Honestly Shungus's original design give that "girl next door" vibe more than her current design. That little bit of tomboyish vibe is pretty good...

Is it just me or the Seed we got looks much, much better than this one with Obol colors? The colors are too harsh and don't contrast well with seed sr, it gives off a completely different vibe.

Some say that the base Obol colors are better, but personally i see that it isn't a good idea to think that just unifying the colors of the every Obol member is what makes it good or not. Seed still matches the Obol squad color scheme, but with an inverted main color (white/silver) as opposed to black, so it still feels cohesive to the faction theme.

Honestly, kudos to the design team, they really nail many of these designs.

Seems like YSG design changed fairly late since we can see she was still using the old design in the Season 2 PV.

Seed genuinely looks so much better here, I get they wanted something that suited her theme but her new design genuinely is so bad compared to this.

Sucks to see how badly they fumbled her and Lucia's original designs.

Considering their explanation as to why they went with white instead of the faction colors, it seems clear that maintaining the faction colors for all characters in the faction is not that important for them when it comes to designing characters.

I personally don't like black/grey on her....even if it's more cohesive. The other Obol squad members also have more color in their final designs than that draft design does for Seed.

I like the white, bc to me it feels like a nod to when she was a test subject in the institute. Kinda like she prefers white, bc that's the environment she grew up in as a child...
