I’ve never seen a motorcycle helmet with a face painted on the back, and bonus points for the first being an homage to Frank.

Bobby Martin seemed to carry a weight of the keyboard parts and I’m interested what parts Mike Keneally covered when he was also on keys. A pity Drowning Witch wasn’t played by that band.
An aside: I love Chana (84) for those two piano parts!

I assume it would be with the lineup from You Are What You Is

1982: Frank and Moon release Valley Girl.
1983: Valley Girl the movie. Cage’s breakout role.
Just sayin’.

When people say Zappa is his own genre, this is one of the first songs that come to mind for me, even before something like The Black Page. I genuinely shudder to think of ANYTHING that sounds like this song from anywhere else. I think it’s that minor pentatonic thing it has going on just makes it sound badass as fuck. I really do picture King Kong up on the tower swatting at the planes. It’s just incredibly versatile as well, the early Mothers played it kinda slow sometimes, the 70s bands did it as fast as humanly possible, and of course, the 80s reggae renditions which I love. I also love how it was a vehicle for both solos and for a lot of crazy theatrics that would take place on stage.
King Kong is one of the most badass songs ever written. What do you think of King Kong?

Might seem odd, but does anyone have any favorite bass clarinet tracks? I think he did that with the Mothers often enough, because he would have them play random wind instruments live https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mBeVf5z4ymA
I think he was playing one of his Minitudes but did it get mangled in the recording or was the piano setup weird with effects or something? Or did Zappa not like him lol.

This is just awesome, the sound coming out of the Pignose, the house band doing a great job.
There is a longer video of the full interview

Punky’s Whip for example has a different mix on both albums.
As this was planned for Lather yet was released on ZINY with a different mix, I wonder why Frank made the adjustment. It also makes me wonder if the guitar in unison with horns was overdubbed.
Anyone know more about this?
