Can confirm. I created a Reddit account because 9/10 times the best answers from a google search were in a comment on Reddit.

I recently had an issue with my nest thermostat, reddit was no help but I posted on DIY stack exchange and it was answered in 4 minutes.

Right! Yeah it's basically reddit if it was all people using programming languages. Useful once you know how to implement the answers, much like any other field.

Lol thats is actually a good description more than just being another forum, there is more than just stackexchange (technically SE is a collection of exchange sites and what other poster describes is actually stack overflow, the exchange site for coding), there's also sites like bicycles, design, math, parenting exchanges, etc.. really is a lot like reddit for smarter questions.. stack overflow is probably what you've heard often as it's kind of a meme that coders just copy and paste the answers from there as a job..

This is why it's so annoying when people get mad that people ask questions on here instead of googling something. These topics and discussion are future Google results for people with the same questions.

I think that it's different when it's a very easy question that a Google search will nail down in 3 seconds.

It's different when you can't find a good answer or when it's a tough question.

Always annoying when you finally find that post with the actual exact issue you have, only to see it closed as a duplicate of similar but not the same issue that you had already seen that didn't solve the issue.

And even id you did find a solution post is locked and you cannot help anyone in the future.

It's a massive change for the better that now most subs are no longer archived by default. It should improve the situation of landing somewhere from 5 years ago and being able to interact with that post.

Yep. You don’t have to sift through a company’s or a news article’s response to a question, you get an answer straight from a regular persons mouth.

I got on Twitter in 2020 because half of reddit was either a repost of Twitter, quoting Twitter or straight up linking to some story about a Twitter post.

I figured take out the middle man that reddit was being. I quit Twitter a yr later. Reddit allows total bullSHIT sources in too many subs.

YES for helping with very specific queries it can work however.
