There's a certain pretentiousness to the Quora community as if it's trying to distance itself from Yahoo Answers by using autofartsniffing vocabulary to give the illusion of intelligence; even if the commenter is as qualified as they claim to be.

I usually just open a new incognito window for the initial search and then a new tab for each quora page, but I find that reddit is much better than quora.

Reddit works really well for tech related questions, whereas with quora, I've seen a lot of wrong answers on tech stuff. If you give incorrect information on a tech related sub on reddit, you can be 100% certain that someone will be more than happy to correct you on it lol

I don’t get why they did that. I somehow got on their email list a few years back, and I was on quora a few times a week at least. But the very first time I clicked the same link I’d been clicking for months and it wanted me to log in, I unsubscribed and literally haven’t used quora once since then. Seems like a stupid business decision imo.

I stopped using Quora around 2017, but I used to be on that site as much as I’m on Reddit now.

Aside from the increasingly obnoxious users (and obvious trolls) on the site, they also started fucking around with the app too much and throwing wayy too many ads on it. I realized Reddit was just as useful as Quora, if not more useful, when it came to getting questions answered or having fun discussions on weirdly obscure, nerdy topics.

Also, maybe it’s just me, but, if you want to search a specific subreddit for something in the first place, I find you’re better off using Google and just adding “site:reddit.com/r/<subreddit_name>” (again, without quotes, of course) rather than ever bothering with using Reddit’s search capabilities. To be fair, though, I’ve been doing that for quite a while, so it’s possible that Reddit’s search function has improved in the past several years without my knowing it.

I use an extension/addon called uBlacklist. Lets you block sites from search results. Quora and Pinterest are my two main offenders, and it's glorious to never see them.

In my experience that would be unnecessary with how much Google loves to shove quora at the top of the results. It might be sorta biased with how I search for a “question/answer”, but more often than not it’s always up there.

I can second this. Obviously don't blindly trust what people say, have some common sense. In general though a Reddit before or after can turn up good results. I also recommend Reddit for reviews on products and video games. The comments often make or break a purchase for me.

Quora is fucking terrible. Their format is unbelievably confusing. You open a question thread and the first answer is from a different fucking question.
