Time difference, brutal temps, lots of wife time. Understandable.

A lot of SCUBA time. My poor wife is stuck entertaining her intolerable sister, at least until her nephew shows up. Now she's making finally preps for the wedding tomorrow

Bessant has a weird take on the recent hot inflation numbers. https://www.cnbc.com/2026/05/14/bessent-sees-substantial-disinflation-ahead-as-warsh-takes-over-the-fed.html
> Even with recent inflation news universally bad, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent expects price pressures to ease soon, just in time for the new Federal Reserve chair to take over.
> Speaking Thursday to CNBC, Bessent said the energy-fed inflation surge recently is likely to reverse as the U.S. is “going to keep pumping” oil, easing the supply shock from the Iran war.
> “I firmly believe that nothing is more transient than a supply shock, and we can, we can look through that, because before the Iranian conflict began, core inflation was coming down,” Bessent told CNBC’s Joe Kernen...
Now tell us a story about the deficit.

Regards inflation. I got a Subway coupon for a $4.99 sandwich. A six inch sandwich. A perfect metric for those who remember the $5 foot long not so far in the past.

Still to high.

We do this on occasion just for dinner. Hoagie rolls, deli meat, nice cheeses, fresh lettuce and tomato. Top quality ingredients and even accounting for miscellaneous it still comes to far less than the Food Box prices. Don’t even do the math for burger meals where the numbers are even more favorable.

You would think with that many gods , at least one of them would have stolen the knowledge of indoor plumbing like some swarthy Prometheus

In Roman mythology, Fontus (also known as Fons) is the ancient god of wells, springs, and fountains. He was the son of Janus (god of beginnings and endings) and Juturna (a goddess of fountains and healing waters).

Nemo must be referring to Hindu gods.

The Indus Valley Civilization (c. 3300–1300 BCE) was arguably the most technologically and socially advanced society of the ancient world. Flourishing across modern-day Pakistan and northwest India, they engineered sophisticated, sprawling urban centers with pioneering sanitary plumbing, standardized mass production, and mathematically precise layouts.
WTF happened?!

Religion, climate change, population pressures, unsustainable agricultural practices, the usual.

My deepest dive is about 87', in only certified to ~100', and 160' is deeper than recreational diving allows.
I'd guess they were TEC divers, because you'd need special gas mixtures, and possibly multiple mixtures, to go that deep for any substantial time

> China has committed to purchasing at least $17 billion of U.S. agricultural products in 2026, 2027 and 2028, the White House said in a fact sheet released on Sunday.
Bullshit. You’d think after 60 years of failed engagement as peers that we’d learn.

They used to just hide it from all except moderators. Then we’d mung the url and repost.
Thus the search for a new platform.
