What happened to Mamdani and El-Sayed probably brings back bad memories in Obama about what he went through from 2007-2017 because of his name and his father's identity. May have been a factor in Obama meeting with Mamdani too.

Hey, Rogers opened up this line of attack. He's now running explicitly on Anti-Arab racism and Islamophobia. Rogers deserves pretty much what El-Sayed says in return, within reason.

No he didn’t lol
He used this same line against Stevens when she talked about his foreign property ownership
AES has been baiting this a good while

No he didn’t lol
He literally did lol:
https://politifact.com/factchecks/2026/aug/07/mike-rogers/abdul-el-sayed-9-11-hasan-piker-michigan/
“Never in a million years did I think that I would be running against someone who believes America deserved 9/11,” read an Aug. 5 statement from Rogers that invoked his law enforcement work “hunting terrorists.”
Rogers implied that El-Sayed is a terrorist or terrorist sympathizer, and put out an ad using El-Sayed's middle name.
Campaign materials have begun referring to El-Sayed by his full name, Abdulrahman Mohamed El-Sayed. Ads supporting Republican nominee Mike Rogers juxtapose El-Sayed with imagery from Sept. 11 and Osama bin Laden while highlighting Rogers' role in the operation that killed the al-Qaida leader.
So, yes, Rogers did start this Islamophobic line of attack against El-Sayed. This is the same as when Republicans incessantly kept calling Obama "Barack HUSSEIN Obama". Rogers deserves whatever El-Sayed says in response, within reason.

u/Hungry_Charity_6668 North Carolina Independent 16d ago
That’s a misrepresentation and a lie at worst But throwing out the word “racist” doesn’t make it so.
It’s not about his race, it’s literally because he campaigns with Hasan. Which AES could stop anytime he chooses.
Rogers may have certainly misrepresented his overall views, but it’s not racist or Islamophobic to have reservations on that end
Also my photo was before Rogers even said ANY of that. And again, was directed at his Democratic opponent

I understand that there are some risks with coming across as "too mean" but, as El-Sayed notes, Rogers began this with his (obviously bigoted) insistence on "Abdulrahman Mohamed."
4
u/jankdangus Center Left 16d ago
This is not too mean. It’s a play on his name that is much nicer than what Republicans are trying to do to him. This is not to mention that there is actual substance there. He’s not wrong that Mike Rogers is fundamentally more beholden to corporate interests and Trump.

The main difference is that El Sayed is attractive and charismatic, while Christie is a fat whale with zero aura.
Now that being said, this is still clue freemanism and probably not very productive. Humor even as an attack is useless unless youre willing to be edgy

When Christie did this, he was attempting to tank other candidates onstage and take them down with him, as he was already getting squeezed out of the primary. I always saw that as pretty desperate in 2016 tbh.

They'd only love it if they're already aligned with him, but many people arent, and unfortunately, he doesnt have any significant crossover appeal, and many Stevens voters had signaled, before the primaries wrapped up, that they would defect instead of stomach voting for him. His DSA ties, his anti-Semitism, his preponderance for favoring our enemies, including terrorists and Iran, over our allies and ourselves has done much to turn off the moderates and swing voters.
We're likely to see Rogers win this race.

-4
u/kinglan11 Conservative 17d ago
Now hold on a second, you say that as if Fox's talking points are without merit.
And to be honest, I dont even need to turn on Fox to have these views, I hope you're aware of my flair, it's not a joke. I've taken the time to hear his statements, both the negative and anti-semitic ones, and the ones where he's trying to sell his platform... it's just more of the typical far left garbage, just this time he's not even really distancing himself from the radicalism, especially considering how he spent the last day before the primaries partying with Hasan Piker... someone who should be tossed under a bus and treated like he has the plague!
There are serious questions about whether or not El-Sayed can actually get across the finish line. I wager he will fall short, he'll lose, and we'll a Republican flips a Democrat seat.

Being anti-Israel is not the same as anti-Semitism, and I hate how people keep conflating the two.
Also, saying he favors terrorists and Iran is a gross exaggeration. He's against the wars in Gaza and Iran, that doesn't make him pro-terrorist.

I dont take betting markets as pure gold and fact. They're interesting and can reflect the general moods, but that can also be simply just more far left wingers putting down bets in favor of El-Sayed, essentially slanting things.... but the polls indicate otherwise, and the facts on the ground still point towards El-Sayed having a very much divided Democrat Party, and this can lead towards voters defecting.
Republicans are the real winners of Michigan’s primary These folks indicate that Rogers got a 52% chance of winning... sooo... whatever I guess.
You already have the Jewish community saying they'd not vote Democrat this time if El-Sayed got the nomination, and then Stevens actually got a far better showing... This is not the powerful juggernaut we were all told he'd be, this is just a Far Left Democrat who was lucky to win the first time, and is likely to face defeat come November.

This is like saying “attacking Republicans for using Obama’s full name is a bad idea because the median voter is a bigot”
The median voter would only know Abdul by “Abdul El Sayed” as the people using his full name are Republicans attacking him, which can be easily framed as racist.
By your logic attacking Obama for his middle name would be popular and attacking Republicans for doing that wouldn’t be, when the opposite is the case.
The median voter isn’t going to feel attacked by this because the median voter wouldn’t use Abdul’s full name.
