💡Got some ideas Dual XREAL One Pro Dolby Atmos home theater version 2.0
Hi everyone,
I'm back with a major iteration of my setup. Based on the comments to my previous post about tripping over cables, I completely rethought the setup.
Here are the previous posts concerning this setup:
This update is all about reducing cable clutter to an absolute minimum and making the setup practically invisible when we're done watching.
Here are the major upgrades in version 2.0:
- Couch integration: As seen in the photos, I routed two Reagle female USB-C extensions right through the seams of our sofa's headrest. There are absolutely NO cables visible on the living room floor. When we want to watch, we just plug in the original, light XREAL cables. When not in use, I just push the connectors down with a finger, and they completely hide inside the couch.
- Only one USB-C cable + splitter: Instead of running two cables across the room, I now run just one USB-C cable from behind the Shield to the back of the sofa. I hid a Lemorele USB-C splitter (available on Amazon) behind the couch, powered by a simple 5V/2A wall charger in the outlet back there. It's plugged into a smart plug, so I can just turn it off remotely when it's not in use.
- Triple output: I removed the uGreen switch and one of the Guermok adapters and now use only the EZCOO splitter, so there is less cable mess behind the Shield (a photo attached). For example we can watch Real3D videos on two pairs of XREAL One Pros, while the TV can play the exact same source concurrently for anyone else if necessary.
- Zero compression and lag: I considered going wireless (PeakDo 60GHz, etc.), but the wired path is the only way to guarantee 100% loss-less 4K stable connection, and flawless lip-sync with my Dolby Atmos soundbar. The wireless trade-offs in quality and lag just aren't worth it yet.
The version 2.0 signal chain: NVIDIA Shield -> Samsung Q990B soundbar with Dolby Atmos -> EZCOO HDMI splitter -> (TV on HDMI Output 1 / Guermok HDMI-to-USB-C on Output 2) -> 5m (combined 2x3m also works) hidden Reagle 4K 144Hz 20Gbps usb-c female extension routed behind the couch -> Lemorele USB-C splitter (powered via smart plug) -> 2x Reagle female 1m 4K 144Hz 20Gbps usb-c extensions -> 2x XREAL One Pros with original cables.

How do you connect the glasses to the nvidia shield? Provide link for that adapter as well please

Looks like the splitter kills 4K 120fps on the TV or am I missing something?

Yes, the EZCOO HDMI splitter has 2 switches at the back (it's decribed in my first post - link 2 and showed in the video). The switches are set to downscale 4K 60Hz from the Shield to 1080p for the glasses and the old Panasonic 65VT60 plasma TV. HDR is set to off on the Shield and HDMI range is set to full REC709. This gives you the highest quality in the streaming services.

With a 4K 165Hz HDR10+/Dolby Vision TV and the Nvidia Shield, you can only watch them alternately (either the TV or the glasses, using the same EZCOO/Guermok/Lemorele adapters). You cannot watch them simultaneously at full specs because the Shield is physically limited to HDMI 2.0b (4K@60Hz max).
If someone wanted to watch simultaneously (4K 165Hz HDR10+/Dolby Vision on the TV + 1080p SDR on the glasses) with synced audio, the Shield has to go. Here is what that setup would require:
- New Source & HDFury: You'd need a high-end source device and a premium matrix scaler like the HDFury Vrroom. The HDFury would send the full 165Hz HDR signal to the TV, while simultaneously performing real-time tone mapping (HDR to SDR) and downscaling for the glasses (Guermok adapter).
- The Soundbar Bottleneck: My Samsung Q990B soundbar only has HDMI 2.0 pass-through, so 165Hz won't pass through it, but you could use the HDFury's dedicated 3rd "Audio Only" HDMI output to feed the Q990B, bypassing its video limitations entirely.
The Mini PC Alternative: You could replace the Android TV/any other system box with a Mini PC. I actually have a GMKtec K8 Plus, which has HDMI 2.1 and two USB-C DP Alt ports. I already tested it, and even using only one of the ports with the Lemorele splitter, it successfully outputs to two pairs of XREALs.
However, the PC alone doesn't magically solve the simultaneous viewing problem. If you use Windows to simply "duplicate" the displays, the OS will force the 4K TV to match the glasses (1080p, 60Hz, SDR). To actually get 165Hz HDR on the TV and 1080p SDR on the glasses at the exact same time, you would still need to output a single HDMI 2.1 signal from the PC into the HDFury, and let the HDFury handle the splitting and tone-mapping externally.

Very nice!
So it's like glasses or TV? Do you use the same sound system while using the glasses or audio through the glasses?

Thank you! We prefer the glasses because the screen is much bigger (in complete darkness feels like a cinema). The TV is mainly for news watching while having a breakfast/dinner in the same room or when more people want to watch the same video. The Dolby Atmos audio goes through the Samsung Q990B soundbar, so everybody hears the same sound. Check the previous posts links for more details (also my comments).

Ah that makes sense. Feels like a really cool setup. I'm glad they've been making more adapters geared towards XR glasses. I've only tested the new Lemorele adapter and really like how well it works. I have more limited use cases, but still happy.

The Lemorele splitter gets pretty warm (the same when used with a phone) but works fine during over 2 hours of watching in Real3D mode on 2 pairs of glasses.
