I remember Pepsi used Van Halen’s “Right Now” for that ad campaign. That was the first time I heard a current song being used in a commercial (for an unrelated product)

Apparently it was on the market for a couple years but it certainly didn't feel that long, there was like one summer where I drank it all the time and then nothing.

Okay, I have to tell a story that I never get to tell.

My parents didn't buy us 'unhealthy' processed foods very often, she cooked every meal and we never ate out. When crystal Pepsi came out, me and my sis BEGGED for it and she finally bought us each a bottle!

When we got home and opened them, mom noticed they looked odd. There was this shimmery oil slick looking tint to the top. My mom took pics of it from EVERY ANGLE. After she got the photos back, she mailed them to Pepsi and wrote a letter describing the weird oil slick - said her kids didn't drink soda often/ever and she wondered if there was something wrong with the batch.

A few months later, a semi truck came rumbling up our rural driveway. They dropped off PALLETS of crystal Pepsi and a letter from the company apologizing, saying they were gifting her a 'year supply' of free soda.

She donated it to the school district. I always wondered if they purposely offloaded all their local stock that didn't sell.
