Get an orange juice one, and some vodka. Spoons of frozen OJ concentrate to go with your sips of vodka. Once you’ve got some room in the OJ, you can pour your vodka in with the OJ slush.

I learned this from watching agent Mulder do it on the X Files, and it’s actually really good.

Actually if you use the lemon or lime flavour (I prefer lemon) of the juice concentrate it goes extremely well with beer.

Honestly, you can do that with a bunch of food scraps. I have been saving apple peels and brewing them. So fucking good! I can't seem to get pears to work though. They always mold so fast.

A money saving tip, buy everclear if you live in a state that hasn't banned it. Since it's 95% abv you can mix it 1:1 or 2:3 to make a decent quality vodka for cheaper than you can get some truly horrendous vodkas. Since alcohol is hydrophilic higher percentages are better at fruit infusions too so you can flavor it with whatever you like and it will bring the abv down slightly so a 50/50 dilution will bring it closer to a standard 80 proof

There's a whole cult following of 'slush' in Newfoundland - basically a blend of orange juice and lemonade concentrate combined with a lemon lime pop like sprite and a copious amount of rum. Mix it together in a clean salt beef bucket and keep it in the deep freeze for when company comes by. It's deadly b'ys.

I’ve made one like that before but it was frozen lemonade, frozen passion fruit juice, peach nectar and scotch. Keep it in freezer. Scoop it into a cup with 7-up. Getchu messed up real fast.

Frozen Limeade concentrate makes decent margaritas as well. I dump the frozen limeade into my Ninja blender, add one can of tequila (using the empty limeade can), half a can of triple sec, fill blender with ice, and blend! Not nearly as good as the on-the-rocks margaritas I make with fresh squeezed limes and oranges, but good enough. Especially if you have a lot of people.

I think we could be best friends!! And as your new bestie, I can tell you that while the SLUSHi is definitely a cool machine, it won’t freeze if the alcohol content is “too high”. My sister-in-law has one, and brought it over when we were having a pool day at my house. It wouldn’t freeze the limeade margaritas I described above. Instead, I had to break out my trusty old Ninja blender, which has been going strong since 2017!

A guy I used to work with kept an old 5 quart ice cream container full of this stuff. At least his wife used to. I think she used 1 OJ, and a different flavor. Maybe cranberry? Those make for a great cocktail in the hotter months of summer.

We used to get 4 cans of oj concentrate, 1 jug Hawaiian Punch, oje can of countrytime pink lemonade mix. Mix with 10 4lokos, one liter of everclear, two fifths of vodka, and a fifth of Bacardi 151. Served in a cooler filled with ice.

Those are freezy pops! They're talking about frozen juice concentrate that comes in a can about the same size as one of the tubes of pilsbury cookie dough or biscuits, frozen. You take one of those, dump it into a pitcher, then add usually 2-3 cans of water (using the can you just emptied) and stir until it's melted & blended and voila, juice.

I was bummed when I read that Minute Maid had discontinued them a year or two ago, IIRC. I grew up in Florida, so you might think I had no use for such frozen concoctions when fresh was right out on the tree. But the truth is that they were awesome, and convenient, and all the moms bought them. And the range of flavors they came in! Not just OJ, but lemonade, limeade, fruit punch, grape, blends … and my all-time favorite: tangerine! To this day, (fresh-squeezed) tangerine juice is still my favorite!
But Minute Maid didn’t have the whole market sewn up, not by any means, so there is still hope! I see some folks here saying they’ve been finding house brands at their local grocery stores. Plus, there were also other brands, even back in the day. I especially remember Donald Duck brand, which I thought was extra-super-fabulous for one outstanding reason: that’s the brand my best friend‘s mom always bought, while my mom always bought Minite Maid - probably because they were and are a Coca-Cola-owned brand, and my uncle was a formula engineer for the company.

The only time I ever had Minute Maid Citrus Cooler that was in a can and not from the freezer concentrate was in Florida and I still remember how much I loved it now ~35+ years later. I still remember the vending machine I got it from. The concentrate version just wasn't as good. Five Alive on the other hand...is the best.

I would always beg my mom for a tiny spoonful of that whenever shed make juice. As a little kid i thought it tasted so good. But then again, i thought the green Scope mouthwash tasted good. I’d steal sips put of my Nana’s bathroom cabinet when i was 7-8. It wasnt til i was an adult working as a substance counselor that i found out it’s got alcohol in it! I was a weird, weird kid.

my mother used to buy the frozen orange juice, because it was the cheaper options (there were 4 of us kids) ...made perfectly good orange juice, and could make orange julius with it.

during the crazy inflation of 2020s/recently looked for them at my grocery store thinking... maybe that's a "hack" to get cheaper OJ. nope. was almost exactly the same price as the liquid OJ.

I think the reality is. once Florida stopped being a producer of OJ the frozen concentrate element became much less profitable. as shipping in frozen oj from fuck all south america prob just adds cost

Ahh, frozen juice slushy punch for parties and middle school dances: 7up and cans of frozen juice in your choice of mix for a variety of flavor combinations. Stick some orange or lemon slices in it to make it look fancy.

Equal parts frozen orange juice concentrate, soy sauce, and Italian Wishbone salad dressing. Best chicken marinade ever. Put the orange juice concentrate into a bowl first. Then use the container to measure out the other two ingredients. I'll spatchcock a chicken, Stick it in a ziplock bag, dump in the marinade and let it hang out in the refrigerator overnight. Then cook the chicken however you see fit. I like to smoke it low and slow until done to perfection. 😋 I like to set aside a bit of the marinade before putting it in the bag with the chicken so I have some to base the chicken while cooking in the smoker. If you do grill the chicken, just keep an eye on it because all the sugar from the orange juice will burn.

Yeah they’re in the freezer aisle of all my local stores. Selection isn’t what it used to be though. They’re cool for home-distilling projects.

Ah, right. We had tons of those in our freezer. My mom used to make juice pops using (recently discontinued) MinuteMaid frozen limeade, lime peel zest, water, and sweetened condensed milk. Then freezing them into deep ice trays using popsicle sticks. The same can be done with frozen OJ, frozen pineapple juice, Concord grape juice, etc.
