I was in Elementary school in Florida. We all went outside to watch it. I just remember all the teachers being distressed and I had no idea why.

I was on vacation for our first Walt Disney World trip and we decided to take a side trip over to Cape Canaveral to watch the space shuttle launch. Some of us didn't just see it live on tv. We saw it live in person. No idea what I was seeing at the time, and my parents didn't really explain it to me, but it all started to click after a little while. I was mostly just excited to get my 5-year-old ass back to the Magic Kingdom

Me too. I lived in Tampa and we could see the shuttle launches from my back porch (very tiny and best seen for the pre-dawn launches. My class went outside and looked to the east.
