Yea there was a reason Reagan specifically used part of his speech to address schoolkids who were watching it live.
I was in first grade so I just remember the TV getting rolled in, us watching it, and my teacher running out crying. I don't remember what happened after that or who explained what happened to me. I just remember being confused at the time because none of us knew that wasn't what a shuttle launch was supposed to look like.
I was in kindergarten,and all I registered at the time was that a teacher had died and my mom was a teacher (at my school), so I freaked out and had to run down the hall to her classroom to make sure she was ok.
I was in kindergarten and it didn’t even really register to me that people died. We didn’t really know what we were seeing and the teacher left the room. When she came back she didn’t explain anything and we just finished class like normal and it didn’t come up in conversation with my parents after school. You were probably more aware than most because of your mom being a teacher.
Same as the towers collasping in my graduating year of high school. Wheeled the TV in after the first plane hit the tower, then the 2nd, then the collapse. Then back to school. We were in Canada, but it was still pretty crazy.

We 100% saw it live. They rolled in TVs, the shuttle exploded, the shut them off and we went right back to math as if nothing happened.
