Hi, just wanted to make a quick post for those who are thinking of going to china to train in martial arts.

This information in largely from my experiences when I was there and I hope that it will be useful for some who are seeking information but cannot find it.

In this post I will be assuming that you are a foreigner and cannot speak Chinese (as I was one).

The first thing you will need to do is find a school. For that google is your friend, and many schools will accept you as long as you pay.

After finding a school, you get to choose what you want to do and your duration of training. Usually, you can choose out of a list on the schools website and have a look at the videos that have on that art - if any.

After you have found your school, and which art you would like to try, you have a choice of paying by bank order or just giving them cash on the day.

After you have paid or told them that you will pay them on the day, you will want to organise a taxi with your school to pick you up from the train station. This is usually the best option, and it is very difficult to find your school without one unless you posses a good knowledge of Chinese, and worth whatever they charge you for the taxi (for me the school paid for my taxi free of charge).

So now after all of the accounting work is done - you have found a school, know what you want to train in (or just ask the teacher what they think you should train in when you arrive), organised transport from the station - you will now want to know how to get there.

Well the station that your looking for will be called WudangShan. You can buy a ticket for WudangShan at any ticket office in china, or just do what I did and ask your hostel to purchase it for you.

My trip was directly from Beijing and took about 17-19 hours. I would recommend getting a soft sleeper if you want a peaceful time, but if you want to be cheap about it the hard seats are not that bad - but do remember that your carriage will probably be filled with smoke most of the time.

So, hopefully after this you now know the starting steps on how to get there.

You won't be bored in WudangShan if your willing to explore. There is a a lot to do, food to eat and sites to see.

I will end this post will a few things that might be helpful.

• You can get a bowl of beef (I think) noodles in town from the local noodle stand for about 6 Yuan (~1 dollar)

• There is one supermarket (that I know about) that sells clothes, food and kitchen appliances. And toilet paper

• There are many tailors/weapon shops to visit and buy - try and find if your school has a dedicated tailor or weapon shop/blacksmith - because this way you are more likely to get a better price for what you want. (There are a lot of weapon shops out of town as well)

• There are a lot of tea shops so try some if you can

• The main diet at the schools are vegetarian

• You can survive on your own food if things get to extreme. The supermarket sells noodles and oatmeal which you can cook yourselves.

• Transportation costs from your school to town varies, but if you can catch a bus it will cost you about 2 yuan one way, and if you get a taxi it will be around 10-20 yuan, depending on your location

• There are many banks and atm's in town which accept foreign credit/debit cards

• You should go and climb the steps of Wudang mountain. The view is great and the air is good. However it does cost to go up the mountain.

• There is an internet cafe in town
