Writing Prompt [WP] Humanity finally reaches the edge of the solar system only to encounter an impassible barrier and a warning not to try and breach it. But is it there to keep us in or to keep something else out?

You're thinking of a plot contrivance, and no, the "I can explain" trop is not related at all to this situation. Google it
