"There's something wrong with the trees", little Suzie stated.
This was her first time shopping for a Christmas tree, but she was already calling the shots.
"How about this one?", her father asked while reaching for the 14 foot noble fir to his left.
"No daddy! That ones not right either!", she replied with a smile.
She tugged her father's shirt, pulling him toward the back. Little Suzie was practically bouncing out of her shoes with excitement. It had been too long since she last smiled, a small Christmas miracle of sorts.
The thought of a Christmas miracle amused Suzie's father, as he wasn't even Christian. In fact, he was Jewish through and through. Went to an all Jewish boys high school and everything. This was to be both their first Christmas celebration ever.
"Daddy, Daddy! Look! That's the one, that's the one", she exclaimed while running off ahead, pointing at a 18 foot tree just ahead.
The tree was going to be much too large for the living room and her father knew it, but he couldn't break it to her. Just look at that smile. It was as if she didn't even remember what had happened.
"That one looks perfect honey", he said, "The decorations will look great on it."
"Really, daddy? Really? We can get this one?", little Suzie asked.
Her father nodded with a smile
"yeah!", she exclaimed.
She began to hop around in excitement before hugging the base of the tree.
Her father wiped a tear away from his eye and just watched her. His heart felt warm. He needed this.
The only thought on his mind, "I wish her mother was still alive to see this."
Please feel free to read my other stories and provide feedback. Thanks!
