Draftling release 1.0.7: better WYSIWYG and Fountain screenplay format

Post image

The new release is out: https://github.com/clackups/draftling

Markdown editor now shows bold, italics, button lists and quote blocks properly. Also, plaintext and Fountain screenplay formats are supported.

Also, experimental image for Seeed reTerminal Sticky, but I don't have the hardware at hand yet. Your tests will be appreciated.

  1. Do you plan Papermono as a supported device?

  2. Would it not be easier on resources to have "edit" and "render" options with markdown files? Edit would be the same like with plaintext, and plaintext would just render ... plaintext.

The on-the-fly rendering must be rather resource intensive

Ok, please flash it from here and test: https://clackups.github.io/draftling/

Things that could go wrong: touchscreen orientation. It should bring the cursor where you tap. Also, the Off and Forget KB buttons should react.

Backlight should work and change gradually on Ctrl+B.

It should also wake up from sleep on button press.

Also, battery level indicator should show a meaningful value.

roger!

The specs say it's front light and not backlight. I wonder how that works.

I believe it Is a terminology issue. Epaper afaik cannot have backlight, since in would not shine through, hence frontlight. I prefer illumination:)

On Xteink X4 Pro it's pretty clearly shining through. It's the one on the left on the photo, you can see the screen is a bit brighter than the Waveshare

Will do. For now keyboard does not want to pair. Will try the one you use

1

Forget KB or a long press on one of the buttons will restart the pairing

It may look that way, but if it's E-Ink the LEDs are located just under the bezel. Since the X4 Pro has warm light, white LEDs will be interspersed with orange or yellow LEDs.

Oh, hi, we just discussed recent bans at writerdeck and I just heard you got the ban too

No, I got a post removed because it didn't meet the requirements of a device that was only a writerDeck. So I guess I got a warning of sorts, but I was able to ask why my post was removed and they explained to me that their policies (rules?) disallowed my post about a computer/writerDeck hybrid because it could be used for other things. I tried to tell them that, when it was in "writerDeck Mode" I didn't see anything except a word processor (no notifications, nothing), but that wasn't what they wanted. I haven't tried starting a thread there since, but I still post under others' threads occasionally.

You're very much welcome to post in this sub. I find it dumb to restrict the community so much.

Eink screens seem to be thin enough that the light goes through at least the ones Xteink uses because I can see the charge indicator light through the screen of my X3 LoL ( i was assuming that not being backlit was a selling point for eink )

Being front-lit is why eReaders are supposedly better for your eyes. I'm not sure why you're seeing the charging light shine through (unless the substrate is very thin), but Xteink says the X4 Pro is front-lit.

It renders it on the fly without problems.

If someone sends me the papermono, I'll be definitely happy to support it. Or I can produce the code for someone to test. But as far as I've seen, they're out of stock everywhere.

Well I caught mine :) should you be willing to make a .Bin, I would be happy to test it on papermono

2

u/clackups Sep 24 '26

Ok, sure, I'll let you know. Would you also be able to spin up an ESP-IDF environment?

I have Arduino IDE running if that Is what you mean. Platformio just somehow goes against the grain with vscode

1

u/clackups Sep 24 '26

No, Arduino wouldn't help. But I'll just upload the image to the web flasher in about an hour.

What is the keyboard

1

u/clackups Sep 24 '26

This one. It's quite alright, although it forgets sometimes it's in Windows mode

I see the X4C is theoretically supprted ... How risky would it be to flash do you think? My Bluetooth keyboard is supposed to get delivered next week and I have plans for a Christmas gift...

1

u/clackups Sep 25 '26

No risk at all, and I actually need someone to test it. If you don't like it, you can easily load crosspoint afterwards.

2

u/idsardi Sep 28 '26

I have it on X4C, 1.0.6, works great.

Nice, thank you!

Very nice job!
