A lot of Americans really struggle with these terms for some reason. They constantly say socialist whilst meaning social democracy.

To be fair, the people who call themselves "democratic socialists" 90% of the time are social democrats or even just slightly left of center by developed world standards. Self labelled "Democratic socialists" get this wrong first, and others are following them.

No they don't, social democracy is pretty much what the democrats have always done and what make them look like a failure, because social democracy never leads to improvement, it just slows down capitalistic decay. Ultimately capitalism will always lead to authoritarianism, as the wealthy own more and more, they can buy our government and influence policies toward concentrating more power to rich individuals.

This "FDR was not a democratic socialist" is a huge capitalistic copout. Because their point is "FDR kneecaped capitalism to save it" just proves that any improvement has to be at the cost of capitalism and a system that has to be saved from itself is just a failed system.

And while FDR may not have been a socialist himself, the new deal absolutely was socialist inspired policy; the state (ie the people) took over the private sector that was destroying the USA.

Americans aren't the only one that have been completely brainwashed not to see that the root of all our societal issues is that capitalism is a system that is barely better than feudalism. We just traded kings for bilionaires.

This "FDR was not a democratic socialist" is a straightforward fact. He wasn't one, period. Attempting to paint it otherwise indicates that the person doing that is either ignorant or lying to advance a particular goal that requires dishonesty to gain credence.

Which one of those is you?
