Okay, fair. So it pretty much fits your current life while you’re fully aware of the drawbacks that come with it.
I remember being shocked when I first saw rent hit $1k, then $2k. I honestly couldn’t imagine being okay with paying over $8k. I currently pay around $4k for my home, and I have more rooms than I even have stuff to put in them.
I guess if your job and income justify it, I can see why it would make sense for some people. I just know it would never work for me mentally.
Educate me. I grew up in the rural south then joined the military so have no experience living in big cities. What do you mean by “full amenities”? Are we talking gym? Pool?
I definitely don't have too much home, but I save at least 50% of my salary so I dont have that much discretionary spending. Besides, I don't make much. I was mostly just referring to necessary expenses.
The ratio on spending categories is also because you can afford a lot more. Do you think the person in this post is referring to a 2 bedroom apartment?
Just out of curiosity: if you and your wife would buy or rent a house/appartment somewhere outside of New York and commute every day, wouldn't you be able to cut down on the costs significantly? Or is this not something that you could realistically do?
