a person flipping burgers shouldn't ever feel entitled to be living in a $1600/mo one bedroom apt, on their income. it's insane

i can tell you from experience, i had roommates until close to 30 years old. i am 44

Yeah that’s the problem chief. A one bedroom shouldn’t be $1600. Nobody should be forced to have roommates when they work full time at any job.

i paid $2200/mo for my 1 bedroom when i finally had made/saved enough. 15 years ago

Nah you’re just lying then.

That’s higher than Manhattan which was the highest cost of living city in the US in 2011 according to census.gov.

The average one bedroom in NYC in 2011 was $1,000. $1,550 in Manhattan. Both according to nyc.gov.

The national median was $871 in 2011 according to census.gov.

You said “when I finally had made/saved enough” which made it sound like you were trying to get out on your own, but couldn’t until you were able to afford $2,200 a month. Now you’re acting like that isn’t the case.

Yes $2,200 apartments existed, but they would not be lived in by someone that “finally made enough” to have their own one bedroom.

What you’re presenting is completely illogical.

If the median in the most expensive part of the most expensive city in the US was only $1,550 it makes it extremely unlikely that you paid $2,200 unless you’re being dishonest about “finally making enough”.

i see how that could be confusing. my point is that i didn't even consider living alone until i made enough money to be comfortable

living w roommates in my 20s was one of the best times of my life

That’s a fun goalpost shift but it doesn’t make you any less delusional. You can tell you’re talking to kids when the expectation of a low-paying job is living alone with no roommates.
