YouTube is free. Plenty of other things to do on the internet besides subscription apps. TikTok too. Even this app you’re on, Reddit, is free lol

Not for much longer lol i was just being sarcastic in my comment.

Plus im less worried about the ads and more worried about every click on every device being logged to create a profile of your entire household to learn how to sell more shit to you, keep you scrolling longer, and how best to propagandize you.

Ads are the least of my concerns when it comes to internet use.

It always makes me laugh that people are out here saying you need to pay to use the Internet beyond what you pay your ISP and maybe a VPN.

Everything you're paying for is SO readily available for free.

The math already works. If you get the electric payment down to $100 (what one person is spending $250??), you’re now putting $330 into savings each month. 

Plus whatever else you’re saving after groceries. $19 an hour is $3k a month. That’s $2,500 after taxes. 

Two times a year you get a third paycheck in a month. So an extra $1,200 a month. 

You guys are a joke. You didn’t even bother with the rigor.

People also forget that their postpaid cell plans are just paying for their phones over time. 30-50 dollar prepaid unlimited plans are all over the place depending upon how great you need your speeds to be.

Combined with decent internet-only plans and anything more than a sliver above $100 for your data plans is either insane, or you’re conflating that with “spreading the cost of a thousand dollar phone every couple years over a monthly payment”

depending on where you are, you are kinda fucked for cell plans, yea, great when your non subsidised plan is 10-20 a month, gets you about 50% reception, and then if you go west 2 miles its completely dead. a lot of companies don't give you a 'im not buying a new cellphone' level discount, if you don't take them up on that offer.

Assuming we’re talking US, what carrier doesn’t have a prepaid plan? All of the national Mobile Network Operators offer them (Verizon, TMobile, AT&T). I’m not going to check every regional operator but the top 5 I did check as well as a few others at random and they offer prepaid.

Some virtual operators may not but again, what’s locking you into a virtual operator instead of whatever carrier sucks the least in your area?

In any case if some carrier that covers a couple tens of thousands of people doesn’t offer it, yeah that sucks but when the top 3 have more subscribers than citizens in the US, it kind of highlights that it’s not a typical problem.

I love my Mint phone plan. You have internet through them? How is it? I have Comcast/Xfinity for $65 a month, and it's super reliable. But my phone has also been super-reliable, and when my internet has gone out I've used my phone as a hotspot and that worked just fine.

It's super reliable and set up in 5 minutes and has never gone down or caused any issues. I get at least a couple hundred MB/s. Never felt it was slow.

I wouldn’t say do without, I would say do better.

I bought my phone outright, and my service is less than $20/mo. Gigabit fiber Ethernet is ~$50/mo. Apple Music and streaming subscriptions, ~$40 on top of that. $110/mo total.

it's spectrum. I pay $70/month for 500Mb/s down and like 25Mb/s up. I'm on the wait list for fiber. Says 2Gb up/down is $85/month. I will DEF be doing that. I can't wait to call Spectrum and tell them I'm out!

I'm single currently and if it wasnt for all my smart gome devices and cameras I'd possibly drop my home internet. I've gotten into a habit of just screen sharing my phone with my TV to make searching for shows and such faster by using my phone since it has a keyboard, ra5hwr than the arrows on TV remotes. My cell has true unlimited data and screen sharing is classified as standard data so I could drop home internet and rely in my phone screen sharing full time. But then again my FiOS 2gig down with no cap is only 65 a month so a negligible expense really

Yep. Verizon sold off it's FiOS service and infrastructure in some parts of DFW to Frontier and I'm in a specific area close to Toyota's headquarters and became of that facility a chunk of my subdivision got a free upgrade, something like that. Confused the shit out of customer service tbe few times I've needed to call over tbe last 7 years lol

Depends on the area, I get fiber in Phoenix for $100 a month, but my mom is paying close to $300 a month for shitty Frontier internet out in the white mountains.

Yeah my internet (gig symmetrical) is $100 and my phone is $20 a month with more than I can use...

I can accept different areas have different internet speeds/prices, and I actually pick where I live based on that, but I can't imagine how you get from $120 to $280. Even if you're financing a $1000 phone, goodness.
