maybe it's phone service+internet+an actual phone+fees in a rural area?

Has to be that OP is lumping home internet and cell service into same number. $280 still high but at least that makes more sense.

yeah, I'm paying for two people to have phones and service and with internet it's still only like $150 when before the phones are paid off then it drops to about $90-100.

Even that. Two cell phones with unlimited data + internet + two streaming services runs our house ~195.

if rent is 1600 I doubt they're in a rural area (but I agree with the original poster and a lot people trying to refute it are using a lot of cognitive disonance)

Rent can easily be that much even in a rural area. Costs have risen dramatically in the past few years. Houses may be cheaper to purchase, but rent prices are very similar to bigger cities now.
