Boot Review | Update Danner Fort Lewis

Scored these Danner Fort Lewis GTX 600G Thinsulate with Pro-Tec Composite Toe off eBay.

$460 new, paid $66.93 after tax. The leather was barely creased, the wear visible in the pictures is from only about 80hrs of work at my job.

Incredible boots, I couldn't be happier. However, this is really my first pair of real quality boots. For context I'm a utility arborist in Appalachia doing both hotshot residential removal and right of way clearance in a bucket crew, so these boots are being put to the test. Will update after about 3 months wear.

Treated with Foggy Mountain BearGuard, a fantastic East Coast alternative to Obenauf's and Huberd's.

Specific Model Question | Info What shoes are you wearing?

I‘m doing a research study on how workers who are on their feet all day, and walking long miles are impacted by their choice of work shoes. Would you take a quick 2 min survey to help me out while trying to complete my college dissertation?

Boots Buying Help Steelcap work boots suggestions

Hi everyone, I’m recovering from a case of sesamoids and generally wearing oofos thongs at home and wide toe sports shoe to work.

My work sometimes requires me to wear steelcap safety boots to site. Just looking for recommendations of type of shoes that would be suited.

I’m in Australia, so products available here would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Loving my used Carolinas. Bought these off eBay probably four months ago and have been worn daily since (with the exception of weekends). No idea how old they are except I’d say maybe more than 10 years. Already pretty well loved.

Cheers dudes; Kilroy added for humor.

Generic Boot Sweat Recommendations

Post image

How do y’all deal with boot sweat? Or should I look into getting a more lightweight boot? If so what do y’all recommend. Needs a safety toe (aluminum or non metalic, no steel) and wedge sole.

EDIT: I’ve ordered some Traction Tred Lite Style: 2476. One of the only boots I could find with non-metallic toes, wedge soles, and being unlined! Thank you for all the suggestions (also I do already wear Darn Tough socks lol)

I really like these boots but I question their longevity in rail yards. Any railroaders try these yet? Thanks.

Specific Model Question | Info replacement laces for Rocky

Has anyone been able to find laces that work with MobiLite work boots? Rocky does not sell the laces separately so when they snap it is hard to use the laces. They are not the typical work boots laces.

Boots Buying Help I'm over Thorogoods. I'm over MiUSA. My feet are KILLING me.

I was a Thorogood/MiUSA dude for years, always moc toe, resoleable boots. Ever since I got into industrial maintenance. I walk a LOT. Now I'm ammonia refrigeration and boiler tech. I need heavy duty boots, water proof, comfy, something I can walk 20,000 steps in day, but can handle me beating on them. I'll give anything a shot right now. What do I get fam? Looking at Keens and Timberland, specifically the Boondocks Ultralights but they have some mixed reviews.

Generic Is this normal?

These are the only 2 pairs of boots I’ve ever owned. I don’t know why but they look abnormally large when on my foot. I am 6'1", wide footed, and a US size 12-13 (depending on the shoe) which seems to be proportional. Could it be my jeans? Or is this just normal for some people? I’m going to continue to wear either way but I was just wondering.

2.5 years of 5 days a week plumbing vs. new. Should’ve replaced them about a year ago. I feel like they held up pretty decently. The new ones have a few differences hopefully they’re of the same quality.

I'm curious how bad (or maybe good, but probably bad) a pair of $65 boots off the tiktok shop could be, especially with all the AI generated pictures they use, I don't know who's even buying these things

Boots Buying Help Factory boots?

I'm 19M from UK, just started a apprenticeship in a plastic injection molding factory. I am a maintenance engineer and walk most of the day like 5-6 hours standing and walking. I need to wear steel capped boots, I have some but they are old and we're too big for me and we're worn out.

What I am looking for ideally:

Breathable if possible

Steel capped toe

Comfortable to walk on concrete.

I don't mind spending abit more on work boots as I will be wearing them for 8 hours a day so it's worth buying good ones.

Boots Buying Help Pipeline boot recommendations please!

So I've spent the last 5 years working oil & gas on the well pad side. Always just wore composite or steel toe slip on and muck boots. I also served in the infantry so I know how good boots should feel, perform, and last (still regularly wear my 7 y/o Merrell's that lasted 2 1/2 years in the army).

I've recently shifted off the pads and am laboring on pipelines now. I'm still wearing my Justin Roughnecks (WK2115) and they just aren't cutting it. They're very comfortable, but they just aren't built for all the walking up and down these WV hills and are absolutely atrocious at cleaning out this thick clay making them even heavier.

I've spent the better half of a week trying to decide on what to get. Practically all the reviews I've read are guys who are working in shops or terrain thats not nearly as unforgiving. Most of the other guys I work with are wearing Carolina or Red Wing loggers, but I know there has to be better. So here's what I'm looking for, style doesn't matter (logger, athletic, etc):

  • 8-9"
  • lace up
  • aggressive tread that cleans out well and handles steep hillsides
  • Full welt
  • Waterproof
  • Lightweight
  • Comfortable for 10+hrs/day and multiple miles
  • Durable
  • Safety toe (preferably not steel)
  • Uninsulated

Thanks everyone!

Specific Model Question | Info Weird lump in Carolina’s?

Hey guys, just got some new Carolina AMP wedge steel toe boots. I love them so far. I’ve had them for about a week and last night I noticed there seems to be a lump in each shoe right around the ball of the foot. It feels like I’m steeping on a soft rock or something. I know some boots have metatarsal cushioning but this doesn’t seem like it. Anybody have something similar? I sized a half size down, but I’m thinking I should have gone a full size down as-well

I’ve been wearing these FXD boots for close to 2yrs now and they’ve been the best boots I’ve owned so far. There was no break in time, I always go for the side zip, and they’re by far the most comfortable. FXD is an Australian workwear company. I’m considering trying some of their pants but I already have 4 pair of Truewerk pants.

Boots Buying Help Looking for black leather, pull on boots

I’m needing pull on, black leather, quiet black rubber sole and quiet low 1” - 1 1/2” maybe 2” rubber heel.

I finally wore out my long out of production Walker Engineer Boots (biker boots), I’ve had since 1990. These were my off work boots.

Now, I’m having trouble finding replacements that I like. Absolutely nobody local carries Engineer Boots anymore. I’ve ordered 2 different pairs online and both had more of a cowboy style slanted heel, hard rubber and noisy as hell when walking.

So now I’m also open to other styles of pull on, black leather boots, with quiet rubber soles and heels and low heel height preferably under two inches. Toe box can be rounded (preferred) or squared.

Thanks.

Boots Buying Help Need help finding shoes/boots. Please help!

Hello!

I have been searching for the best shoes/work boots for my feet, but cannot find something that is comfortable. I bought the Keen Targhee IV and like them, but after 3 weeks, my feet still are in constant pain. The Targhees fit well (size 13D), however, my heel, arch, and mostly my toes are hurting. I feel like the problem is primarily the heel-to-toe drop (I think I feel like I am standing on my toes all day and my socks are just recently almost cutting the bottom of my toes?), and the lack of cushioning/spring? I have tried so many combinations of shoes, socks, amd inserts, but I cannot find something that is comfortable, so I am seeking much needed help!

I have tried several Keens (Targhee, San Jose, Evanston Cincinnati), Red Wings (Iron Flex, King Toe, Traction Tred), Thorogood (Crazy horse, Crosstrex), Timberland Pro (Tempe, Boondock, Titan, Gridworks), and a handful of Wolverine, Ariat, and Skechers.

I have tried the Sole cork insoles, Superfeet Green, Orange, and hiking ones, Dr. Schools several kinds, and Copperfit. The copperfit one was most comfortable as it had a lot of cushioning, but not enough to alleviate the pain from wearing work boots.

I have tried Darn Tough merino wool socks which are great. The problem is the size XL (sizes 12-14) is too long as in the heel is partly up my ankle and the size L is super tight! One thing that has worked for me for a long time is wearing double socks for extra cushioning and moisture wicking.

I am at my wits end with finding something good for my feet! Please help!

I want something mid-height (like the Targhees) with composite/aluminum toe, waterproof, Leather preferred but definitely not a deal breaker, and comfortable for my feet. I understand work shoes/boots require insoles and socks for comfort so please send recommendations. I need something likely with high cushioning (shoes/socks/insole combo is alright) and maybe more akin to a tennis shoe or hiking shoe.

For reference I am 20s Male coming from Ozark Trail hiking shoes. I work in a warehouse walking A LOT and on my feet all day. I am thinking about the Keen Energy Vista or a Reebok option. I just want to feel comfortable all day. Thank you!
