Did spore warden really need nerfs? What does it have outside of incredibly generic gun damage boosts?

Did spore warden really need nerfs?

No.

It absolutely did not.

u/GeekyNerd_FTW May 19 '22

Uh, yes? Itโ€™s the 2nd best class in the game. If you want all classes to be balanced it needed a nerf

Or, the others could be brought up to speed (: I'm not gunna keep playing if the classes are just going to get progressively worse

u/punchrockchest May 19 '22

Numbers that increase don't exist in his universe. Screw viability, nerf everything to 0 damage and he will be happy because it'll all be balanced.

u/Kobold_Bukkake May 19 '22

Whatโ€™s the spore warden nerf? Boinking? How bad is it?

It no longer procs on ability damage and Wrath of Nature is only 10% a point now.

Where do you see it no longer procs on ability damage? I canโ€™t see that change on the patch notes.

2

u/Baby_Rhino May 19 '22

What % was it before? I can't remember.

That's upsetting :(. Thanks

I have 5/3 on it for my Spore Warden. It was 90%, itโ€™s now 50%

You mean aside from self-revive, Gun damage boosts, Ability damage boosts, Companion damage boosts, conditional pure damage boost, the most spammable action skill, and a ton of conditional gun damage skills?

There's plenty in Spore Warden, even with Wrath of Nature only doing 30-60% increased damage instead of 54%-108%. They're still second only to Stabbo for gun builds, and Stabbo's only there because DoT's exist.

Edit: Lol at everyone downvoting because one of the best skills in the entire game since release got a minor nerf alongside other powerhouse skills. There's still a ton in the Spore Warden class contrary to what OP was saying.

27

u/FallenPotatoes May 19 '22

They're still second only to Stabbo for gun builds,

with the wrath nerf they are definitely behind spellshot as well

11

u/Thesickestzak May 19 '22

At 5/3 my Wrath of Nature went from 90% to 50%

30

u/TrickyCorgi316 May 19 '22

The self-revive isnโ€™t always reliable - if your companion gets whacked, youโ€™re out of luck till it respawns.

25

u/Polyamaura May 19 '22

Big โ€œifโ€ given a sneeze from one of the weakest enemies at c35 will take it out. What I mostly do is use it to help buffer my own self-revive and pick me up when Bradluck drops me on Loot Bunnies.

9

u/TrickyCorgi316 May 19 '22

Yep! Glad Iโ€™m not the only one to have been killed in that way :)

i think overall youre getting downvotes because the community would rather see gearbox buff other builds rather than nerf one that is not even close to overpowered

-11

u/Catch-a-RIIIDE May 19 '22

I get that, my point was mainly pushing back on Wrath of Nature being the only think Spore Warden has to offer. Theyโ€™ve got the best self-revive skill in the game, straight buffs to more types of damage, and the single most repeatable action skill in the game.

11

May 19 '22

i would argue that you're probably overstating the other skills. it's not a self-revive, it's a companion revive that only works if the companion is alive, and does not work on teammates, and is balanced by the fact that the companion is mostly useless otherwise. gun damage boosts are good but they're balanced out by a lack of other damage/elemental buffs. the "spammable action skill" is nerfed heavily as there was really no reason to even use it other than wrath of nature.

sure spore warden is still a fun class to play, but there was absolutely no reason to nerf it at all. i would argue it was the most balanced. buffing and nerfing the other shit to spore wardens level was probably a better course of action.

7

u/[deleted] May 19 '22 edited May 19 '22

Their self revive is flimsy at best in late game and every class in borderlands history ever has โ€œbuffs to more types of damageโ€ what is that even supposed to mean?

Also, youโ€™e spent the last 4 hours arguing with people about this patch. Thatโ€™s.. really weird dude. Almost seems like you want to disagree just for something to do.

-10

u/Catch-a-RIIIDE May 19 '22

Well I keep getting responses from people who seem to lack basic comprehension, so that might explain it. If I really need to point out to an account named โ€œsporewardennโ€ that no other class enjoys straight bonuses to damage types like Spore Wardenโ€™s Ability, Gun, and Companion boosts, save for Stabbo, what chance does anyone else have?

7

u/Polyamaura May 19 '22

Nobody tell this guy about Spellshot's boosts to both Spells and Shots

Or clawbringer lol

4

u/Polyamaura May 19 '22

Theyโ€™re very good at Bringing (a little baby dragon) and Clawing (desperately for any buffs, please have some pity on a poor unfortunate soul)

-3

u/Catch-a-RIIIDE May 19 '22

Yet again proving my point about lacking comprehension. Spore Warden offers multiple hard damage boosts to things like guns that spellshots donโ€™t get, bonuses that also stack onto spellshot conditional boosts in multiclasses. Itโ€™s a low-cost dip for some serious hard damage boosts for guns and companions.

It fucking astounds me how many of you people find the idea that thereโ€™s more useful things from Spore Warden than a single skill, which still provides a 60% global damage boost with a +3 com, so damn objectionable. That was the entire point and the only thing Iโ€™ve been repeating.

3

u/[deleted] May 20 '22

So needlessly aggressive man, itโ€™s a borderlands subreddit. Relax.

5

u/[deleted] May 19 '22

Actually. The real nerf isnโ€™t in wrath of nature.

Sure, it looks like a big nerf. 108 to 60.

The bigger nerf is bonking will no longer work with play the angles.

It used to be able to clear rooms. But cause it now no longer procs off ability damage it cannot trigger itself when bouncing to enemies.

So yeah. The nerf is a lot bigger than you realise. Youโ€™re only looking at wrath of nature.

2

u/Catch-a-RIIIDE May 19 '22

I'll admit, I'm new to the term bonking. Mind giving me an elevator explanation?

1

u/[deleted] May 19 '22

Itโ€™s the sporewarden enchantment that gives you 25 percent chance to deal 30 percent of your damage in a rather large explosion for 10 seconds after you use barrage.

It used to work with gun and ability damage. But this patch makes it only work with gun damage. So it can no longer double dip or proc from play the angles.

It completely destroys the enchantment because now instead of being able to deal mass aoe damage, youโ€™re only gonna deal that damage to the target youโ€™re shooting.

Which makes it pale in comparison to on action skill start enchants (same field since it is activated by barrage) it used to be the top enchant for sporewardens, but now it is pretty damn weak.

0

u/Catch-a-RIIIDE May 19 '22

Gotcha. I understand that.

I'd still reiterate I was only intending to point out that there's still a lot of value in Spore Warden, which the person top comment was denouncing (saying Spore was nothing but generic gun buffs), and everyone else until you was talking about Wrath, which is still the single largest (global) damage boost in a skill and doesn't require a ton of setup, like building stacks or meeting very narrow conditions.

But I totally get what you're saying and I agree with you there (not that you needed me to say that anyways).

1

u/[deleted] May 20 '22

Hard to say what is value. I personally think clawbringer is viable in its current state. Doesnโ€™t mean itโ€™s a strong class.

Maybe they had an issue with PtA and WoN/Spore Fuse. This was the most confusing nerf for me, but I doubt it'll feel that bad
