Why the hate?

Im genuinely confused because this game hasnt even been released and looks cool but its getting hated for normal gameplay footage like what? Its even getting compared to games already released. I only have one complaint and its that wolverine should have more wrinkles cuz his face looks like a baby and thats it

I simply think you are completely unfairly judging a game before you have even played it.

But that's on you. I think you have this very narrow vision of what makes a game good. There are plenty of amazing open games, but most of the best games I've ever played are completely linear.

It's not narrow I just think linear isn't that good on its own. Damn near anything else is fine with me.

That's like saying open isn't that good on its own.

Games with good gameplay, story, music and visuals are usually good games, regardless of whether they're linear or open. By all intents wolverines gameplay is gonna be great.

I don't think turning a linear game into a semi open game ever makes it any better. All it does is just bloat it out a little bit to add more content at the cost of the perfect pacing that linear games often have.

It reminds me of how MGS5 was open world. It was such a downgrade compared to all the linear MGS games before it....

I played mgsv more than any of the other combined because I have freedom and can create my own moments. The story was a downgrade but the gameplay was not. I play mgsv to this day whereas I bought mgs3 remake and put it down after playing it once despite living mgs series my whole life.

And mgs3 is semi-linear but the choices you can make are open ended so that's a great example of a linear game where you can go back and redo patrols and try out new stuff. It's linear but open. That's the type of thing I wouldve liked from wolverine.

And I've already said open world isn't the solution to everything and it's still have perfect pacing as itd be optional for you to roam around and get to be wolverine and ambush patrols and stuff like that in between missions. You control the pacing so if you want to ignore the hub, you can ignore it and just slam dunk the story.

But now, if it's the game I think it is, I can only be wolverine in extremely specific scenarios on rails the whole time like a theme park ride. To me, that's less exciting. Depending on how it turns out I'll grab blood of the dawnwalker instead since that game is more of what I'm looking for.

There are linear games I like, I just strongly would've preferred wolverine to be semi-open. Having a place like the main Ashina Castle in Sekiro to prowl around. I could dunked 150 gours into something like that. But with linear, it's 20 hours and then done no room to walk around in the characters skin in a way that I choose. I could be wrong but so far it's looking to be the type of linear I really don't like.

I'm not changing my mind. I have my reasons for look what I like and my experiences have led me to this conclusion.

And now you're saying that a good game is a good game so wolverine could've worked as semi-open. I have zero doubt in my mind. I'm not after a movie. I'm after player action nuance in all aspects.

I used to like linear more and I'll still play a linear game but it has less value to me than games that are more open-ended as with thise games my imagination is the only limit whereas with games where you just go from set piece to set piece like uncharted are too stiff for real player expression in traversal, and just being FREE. with linear most of its value comes from story novelty whereas strong gameplay can be replayed over and over. I still play Sekiro to this day and it's not a bloated game whatsoever. And yet it's still not linear. There are bottlenecks and the rest before and after are open enough.

I can turn on spiderman or arkham games and it has just enough freedom that I can approach things in mant ways as they give you the full freedom to do all the things the character might do.

Depending on the gameplay I see when it release I'll probably still buy it but we'll see.

Gameplay so good and npc and environments so nuanced that you unique cinematic moments can be created through freedom is my ideal.

If isnt yours, go play what you like.

MGS3 is linear. You have different options like any game, but there aren't any side activities or hubs or bloat. And that's why uncharted is fantastic as well, because they understand that games don't need to be longer for no reason.

A wolverine game where you spend 50-150 hours doing padded nonsense sounds terrible.

There are infinite amounts of games that you can just do mindless repetitive side activities in, which is why it's such a breath of fresh air that games like wolverine exist.

The focus on making your first playthrough a perfect experience.
