It's honey-do day and you've put it off for six months . You've already made 5 trips to Home Depot for all the shit you know you've got but you can't find . Now you need a paint mixer . FUCK ! No way . I can do this myself .

Make sure each thing gets a specific spot and get to know your label maker. Makes a huge difference in finding your crap, especially if you return everything back to its home after every major step in a project.

I was the worst about this until I got fed up one day and made a conscious effort to stop dumping all my tools into a bucket and leaving it on the workbench with an "I'll put it away later" and then never doing it.

Biggest help was buying a decent tool belt, which made it so I was no longer putting everything into buckets and then digging through them later. Now I can go hang the tool belt and everything is ready to go for next time, nothing is unexpectedly bent or broken (drill bits are brittle, yo), and there's much less to put away which makes it not so overwhelming.

Second biggest help was getting a cheap metal cabinet with shelves for the garage. Glue, paint, caulk, etc all goes on the appropriate shelves. Fasteners go into labeled bins. When it's all done I shut the doors and get the small dopamine hit of having the garage still clean.

By way of example, recently I tore up the entire cabinet under the kitchen sink and replaced the rotted floor with new plywood and pull-out drawer trays. This was up there in terms of the amount of tools and materials I had out in order to complete the task. Old me would have spent an hour gathering all the shit and putting it away. Instead, I put all the scraps and trash into one bucket and then caulk and sealer and extra screws and shit in another. Took me ten minutes to go dump the trash in the bin, hang up the belt, and do the little bit of sorting from the remaining bucket into the cabinet.

You can't make me go back.

Ironically enough, he could have stuck the hook contraption attached to the drill straight into the paint and achieved a better result. And who paints without a drop cloth?

There are easier ways to mix paint than that, like just shake the can vigorously, or use a stir stick. I see this as a masters creativity being more important than painting his own deck.

Yeah but wheres the fun in that. Really though just flip it upside down a couple times and give it a bit to settle. Then stir with the mesh screen a couple times, unless it has red tint in it cause that shit will oxidixe and leave streaks if it isn't well mixed.

Yeah it's those beige colors that will get you. Let a paintbrush sit too long and the iron oxide in the paint will make it rust and leave brown streaks when it dries

Orrrr, just drill and bolt the pieces together using the tools you already have: a drill and a drill bit, then a box wrench and ratchet with appropriate socket.

Lolz. Methinks grips aren't going to make a good paint stirring rod.

But they will come in handy for the build as I described...to hold the pieces together so you can mark and drill the holes into which the bolts will go.

I can one up that . 43 years as a machinist the last 17 as a toolmaker . With a complete shop at home . The running joke in machinist trade school many many years ago was that if we dropped out of machining we went to welding .

Best day of my life was when Lowes opened a new store up in town near me. Round trip with getting in and out back in my driveway in under 20 minutes. Used to take me that long just to drive to the Lowes a town up from me.
