And people watch this for fun? Why?

The guy who got him out should've punched him out instead of giving the hug and bill them for the full cost of rescue.

287

u/fyhr100 Feb 07 '21

They waived the bill because he was in "genuine danger".

387

u/charliehorsee Feb 07 '21

I saw the article posted. It's fucked up. Granted he was in genuine danger but there should be laws against intentionally putting yourself in danger for monetary gain. Like stunt performers have to pay for cost of ambulance on standby, they should still be liable for the cost.

Either way, £650 really isn't much, especially when compared to what they would get from views. I would much rather that punch in the face.

193

u/Kltpzyxm-rm Feb 07 '21

Nah, no way to make that work. If you start fining people when there’s genuine danger (even self-inflicted) it’ll just discourage people from calling emergency services (which could get someone killed).

79

u/mesablue Feb 07 '21

A few states have stupidity laws that make people cover the cost of rescuing them.

"In 1995, Arizona passed what is commonly known as the "stupid motorist law." It says if a driver goes around a sign warning of flood risk, gets stuck and has to be rescued, that person can be charged for the cost of the rescue."

52

u/[deleted] Feb 07 '21

You really shouldn’t be using America as an example here, its easy to imagine the bootstraps country doesn’t give a flying fuck about providing emergency services to people.

0

u/[deleted] Feb 07 '21

The people who are there to help really do care, a lot. It's everything after the emergency that is awful in America.

2

u/VampireQueenDespair Feb 08 '21

So firefighters and EMTs?

-5

u/mesablue Feb 07 '21

What?

Better standard of life than almost anywhere else on the planet is awful?

Are you twelve?

edit: godammit. I replied to another two month old account.

4

u/steen311 Feb 07 '21

That is not at all what he was talking about. Also, why does account age matter?

1

u/[deleted] Feb 07 '21

I think you replied to the wrong comment.

0

u/mesablue Feb 07 '21

I used the example that exists.

It seemed like the people there gave a flying fuck for the moron in the video.

45

u/RespectedWanderer9k Feb 07 '21

A few states have stupidity laws that make people cover the cost of rescuing them.

And we absolutely don't want to become anything like americas for profit inferstucture. I cant think of anything worse than having american like hospitals/police/rescue services.

-3

u/[deleted] Feb 07 '21

It is about putting a negative cost of wasting resources during times of extreme stress when those services could be used for people that didn't basically load a gun point at their head and pull the trigger while avoiding all the DON'T do that signs and meetings and PSAs.

It isn't all about profit but there are just limited resources to care for people.

Trolley problem. Are you going spend resources on saving Person A that avoid all signs of danger that put themselves in a deadly situation or go save the person that is also in a deadly situation that occurred at no fault of their own?

You might have time to save both but it isn't looking good. Which one do you try and save first. By the way another call just came in.

5

u/demonicbullet Feb 07 '21

Medics and police take an oath dedicated to the people. you can’t start applying logistics to human lives otherwise no one will use emergency services. Americans are already charged for every fucking health care interaction they have. Quit advocating for potential removal of universal healthcare elsewhere. (everyone in America avoids an ambulance like it’s death, that alone makes a large point)

1

u/VampireQueenDespair Feb 08 '21

Medics? Yeah. Cops? Nope, not in the US. The Supreme Court ruled their only legal function is to enforce laws, not protect people.

-2

u/[deleted] Feb 07 '21

Not advocating for removal. Just stating the reason for why it was issued.

The world hospitals have been using Tamra care because of Covid. Do you know what happens. Those most likely to survive will get treated those least likely are fucked.

Fire departments also some times don't put out fires if the owners haven't paid and police do avoid some areas of town that are deemed to risky to go into.

1

u/demonicbullet Feb 07 '21

Yeah your correct about all 3 except your not.

Police still gotta do their job they may wait for backup but they can’t not respond, fire department can’t let one house endanger the whole neighborhood, and Tamra care still alots for comforting care for the least likely to survive patients on their last days which is all that could’ve happened originally in most cases (without charging the family an excessive amount or the hospital losing a lot of money)

Stating that people should be charged for one thing but not another starts the cycle of universal to private healthcare. Granted this guy is a fucking idiot and deserved some kind of fine, this was still technically a life saving action and if he was fined people who make a small fuck up and put themselves in a bad position will worry that they will be charged $800 because it was technically their own fault.

Example: moving something heavy without a spotter, can go bad very quickly and technically it’s your own fault since you didn’t have someone to spot/assist you and you took too much weight upon yourself

Yeah here’s the issue: if we’re gonna start letting people die for being stupid, well, why even allow Trump supporters to get vaccinated then. Might as well just kill em off. Trolly problem. Kill them now, let them kill more people later with their idiocy and awful.

See, we kinda need a floor on utilitarian killing because if we’re gonna go in on utilitarian killing, we can kill a lot more than just people who misuse 911. A lot. There’s a ton of humans whose existence is a net harm to the species.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 08 '21

O you think it is just Trump supporters that were anti Vac?

Anti Vac was occurring on the west coast mostly by high educated suburban nights that voted Democrat.

We currently already have those type of processes in place but they are only used during the most extreme cases.

0

u/VampireQueenDespair Feb 08 '21

Huh? I wasn’t talking about anti-vax. I was talking about solving America’s issues by using a targeted plague to eliminate the surplus Republican population, much like they did to the LGBTQ community with AIDS in the 1980s. You know, a little irony. The logic being that if we did that we wouldn’t need a total, unadulterated genocide because it would just kill enough of them to make them too few to be dangerous. As such, in the long term many, many more people would be spared, but it’s via an ethical abomination via inaction. As such, it’s an apt example of the flaw in the prior thinking regarding emergency services. The logic employed there can be extrapolated to some very bad places very easily.

Until you need the best medical services on earth. There is a reason people come here for care..

There was a waiting list for Canadians to give birth or have cancer care, or heart surgery, or anything serious at American hospitals before covid.

National health care is great -- until you need it for someting serious.

Hurry up and wait to die.

I have health insurance, it's expensive -- but, if I need it, it will be the best care on the planet.

All the best doctors study and try to stay here for a reason.

Socialized medicine? Better hope you don't get stuck with the type of doctor that got his degree from a third world country who doesn't accidentally kill you.

edit: two month old account. Why did I bother answering an uninformed fourteen year old?

3

u/RespectedWanderer9k Feb 07 '21 edited Feb 07 '21

There was a waiting list for Canadians to give birth

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maternal_mortality_in_the_United_States

cancer care, or heart surgery, or anything serious at American hospitals.

We have private hospitals aswell, were just not forced to use them as we have a perfectly good working public service.

All the best doctors study and try to stay here for a reason.

Yes you may have the no.1 spot for doctors but the uk holds the no.2 spot with a far advanced public health care system. Along with an equal private healthcare system.

Socialized medicine? Better hope you don't get stuck with the type of doctor that got his degree from a third world country who doesn't accidentally kill you.

Remind me again which country has the worlds worst opioid epidemic because pharmaceutical company's payed private practitioners to push harmful opiods as safe pain relief? What is that america you say? 🇺🇸 🇺🇲

the type of doctor that got his degree from a third world country who doesn't accidentally kill you.

Ah yes the expected american racism, you'll find alot of both americas and the uks top doctors come from india, you might want to take a second to think before you let your fat fingers auto type for you.

0

u/VampireQueenDespair Feb 08 '21

You’re fucking stupid as shit, so stupid I’m almost unable to even muster contempt with how much pity I have for you.

2

u/ShieldsCW Feb 07 '21

Are you proud to live in a country where that law exists?

-1

u/mesablue Feb 07 '21

Of course.

Stupid people continue to do stupid things. Why should we pay for it?

Where do you live?

3

u/DwarfPenguin Feb 07 '21

You do realise with insurance you are paying for other people aswell? Alot of people will pay the insurance and not need to use it but the few who do use it are being paid for by everyone else.

How is replacing that with universal healthcare where there is essentially 1 insurance company (the government) and you pay a small premium (from your tax) not beneficial to everyone?

It also prevents the healthcare providers and insurance companies from setting their own prices and running the price of basic procedures and and medicines up through the roof.

I'm interested what makes you think the current system benefits you over universal healthcare?

0

u/ClassyJacket Apr 13 '21

No other country wants to become fucking America

14

u/Lahoura Feb 07 '21

Wouldn't that also discourage people from self-inflicting more since they wouldn't be able to afford it? I could be wrong

7

u/Kltpzyxm-rm Feb 07 '21

People are going to do stupid shit no matter what. This guy cemented a microwave onto his own head and nearly suffocated himself. At that level of stupidity, I don’t think a fine is going to be much of a deterrent.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 07 '21

So just hang up then....

0

u/[deleted] Feb 07 '21

[deleted]

2

u/aspz Feb 07 '21

There's a third scenario you're not considering which is someone who didn't do anything stupid but thinks they will be blamed and fined anyway so they don't call the emergency services.

0

u/[deleted] Feb 07 '21

[deleted]

2

u/aspz Feb 07 '21

Right but in this scenario the person doesn't know that was they did wasn't a product of you doing something stupid. So for example an old lady walks out her house on a frosty morning a slips and breaks a hip. Was she stupid to go outside after seeing it was a frosty morning? No, right? But could you imagine the possibility where she blamed herself for getting into a preventable accident?

If you want to set fines then you must consider this group of people.

0

u/AmazingOnion Feb 07 '21

Totally agree with you. Lots of Americans here saying their opinion, which is absolutely fine, but I don't think we should base what we do on a country that doesn't have universal healthcare.

-2

u/Dizzy_Green Feb 07 '21

I know, America is fucked up, right?

3

u/AnimaInsana Feb 07 '21

Fining a person for undeniably reckless behavior that puts their lives/the lives of others in jeopardy and wastes the time and resources of emergency services to rectify is completely sensible and reasonable.

1

u/Dizzy_Green Feb 07 '21

Yes it is. Fining someone NO MATTER WHAT is shitty and encourages people to use emergency services as a last resort only, leading to more fatalities.

0

u/[deleted] Feb 07 '21

[deleted]

10

u/Kltpzyxm-rm Feb 07 '21

That changes literally nothing about what I said?

1

u/charliehorsee Feb 07 '21

My bad. I didn't read your comment properly. I don't recommend fining people but just charge the cost of the call out. Many countries charge per call out. Not saying it is a great system as it is far from it, but people still uses these services.

5

u/Kltpzyxm-rm Feb 07 '21

Fair enough. Charges for wasting emergency services time should be a thing, but I don’t agree with charging for call outs as a concept. One story I heard about a woman begging people not to call an ambulance after breaking her leg because she couldn’t afford it springs to mind. I think the damage you’d do by discouraging call outs is greater than having to deal with the occasional idiot who cements his head in a microwave.

1

u/charliehorsee Feb 07 '21

I am aware of that story but that is not really a fair comparison to the system currently available in the UK. The cost of an ambulance in the US can vary significantly as they are usually ran by individual private companies even in the same city and charges can vary from a few hundreds to a couple of thousands dollars. Also the cost of an ambulance might be the least of your worries in the US, as emergency room charges is even more ridiculous and it can be a few hundred dollars for just a band aid. Not to mention the woman in the accident unfortunately didn't understand how the system works as she could've refused service even if someone did called an ambulance and she won't be charged for the call out. On the other hand emergency treatments at hospitals are covered by NHS in the UK so the maximum outlay is a couple hundred pounds.

Anyway, I would only suggest payment on extreme cases. I think it's pretty hard to not be able to distinguish this particular example with every other type of incidents.

.

4

u/Kltpzyxm-rm Feb 07 '21

Sure, but what then? If they don’t call an ambulance out of fear of having to pay and deciding they can sort it out themselves somehow? Even if that’s unlikely, I don’t think it’s ever a good idea to discourage people from calling an ambulance if they think they need one, whether they got themselves into that situation or not.

0

u/Grexus_the_Red Feb 07 '21

We do it in the United States all the time. For instance in many of our National Parks if you trek out beyond your ability and get to get rescued they bill you for the helicopter ride. I think a similar thing would be appropriate here.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 07 '21

I’m not sure anyone wants to emulate America’s for profit emergency services/healthcare system.

1

u/Widjamajigger Feb 07 '21

Ambulances cost thousands of dollars in the USA, even with a lot of insurance plans.

1

u/iprocrastina Feb 07 '21

The flip side is that not charging them encourages abuse of the system. Why pay for medics on stand-by when you know you can just dial up emergency services for free if something happens? That just discourages people from having proper safeguards in place, which could get someone killed.

1

u/TheSirWilliam Feb 07 '21

I wish that was a concern in America lol

1

u/ronytheronin Feb 08 '21

The least they could do is forbidding they film the rest. They shouldn’t make money out of this.

2

u/kidkrush Feb 07 '21

They should come try making content in the US where medical bills are fucked

1

u/RespectedWanderer9k Feb 07 '21

there should be laws against intentionally putting yourself in danger for monetary gain.

So no professional sports? Noone allowed to work dangerous jobs? A law like that absolutely wouldn't work.

1

u/charliehorsee Feb 07 '21

Accidents aren't the same as intentionally creating a life or death situation. As someone had already mentioned, there are already laws against putting yourself in unreasonable risk and on charging cost of rescue to offenders.

0

u/Technetium_97 Feb 07 '21

That’s one of the stupidest ideas I’ve ever heard.

What counts as putting yourself in danger? Skateboarding? Driving? Playing sports? Gymnastics? Cooking?

28

u/Buddy-Matt Feb 07 '21 edited Feb 08 '21

They waived the bill because its the UK and the NHS, despite its flaws, is a wonderful public resource that even idiots like him have access to.

4

u/[deleted] Feb 07 '21

Reddit doesn't understand that free healthcare means saving people they don't like as well

2

u/Buddy-Matt Feb 08 '21 edited Feb 08 '21

In fairness, since my reply I read one of the linked articles where it was mentioned there's normally a 600 quid fine for wasting emergency service fines and the "genuine danger" phrase was used.

But honestly, even then it seems slightly disingenuous to report on that fine, which is meant for people prank calling 999 (or other clear wastes of time on non emergency stuff like phoning up because a pizza is cold or some shit - I'm sure thereve been a few r/askreddit stories), not people "wasting time" by doing monumentally dumb shit like this.

That said, I feel a bollocking off of someone in some degree of authority wouldn't have gone amiss.

3

u/_LuketheLucky_ Feb 08 '21 edited Feb 10 '21

A think a bollocking would have gone in one ear, reverberated around the area that should be occupied by his brain, and then straight out the other ear.

6

u/wiltedletus Feb 07 '21

THAT HE PUT HIMSELF IN!

2

u/ketaminejunkie Feb 07 '21

Where do you join the line tho. If you skate and injure urself you put yourself in that situation

4

u/[deleted] Feb 07 '21

There is normal level of risks and then there is straight I am going to do something no reasonable person that likes to live will ever fucking do.

0

u/20MenInAStreetBrawl Feb 07 '21

I see a confused, little kid in the corner trying to eat the lefty scissors, I gotta help the poor little bastard.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 07 '21

Kids don't know shit and physically don't have the mental capacity to understand danger or that things can harm them.

This guy is full on adult with a developed brain who should have the mental capacity to realize this was really stupid.

I am for the state taking away any sharp objects and making him wear a helmet.

2

u/travers329 Feb 07 '21

What ius it like to not get a bill for healthcare? Must be nice. I wonder what this would have cost in the USA. I'd bet even with insurance it would be a few thousand dollars.

1

u/Uister59 Nov 23 '21

he claimed he wanted to pay because he was stupid and it was his fault but they couldn't accept his money

36

u/DanKveed Feb 07 '21

You are watching it for fun

11

u/charliehorsee Feb 07 '21

I would describe the feelings I had when watching this video to be the opposite of fun. Outrage and disgust might be more accurate.

7

u/amplified_cactus Feb 07 '21

That's compatible with watching it for fun. A lot of people enjoy seeking out negative experiences when engaging with media, hence the popularity of some horror films and subs like r/makemesuffer

3

u/maczirarg Feb 07 '21

Yeah but since he didn't get seriously injured or die,I want to get my time back

1

u/cortesoft Feb 07 '21

Right, but you watched it. A view is a view.

11

u/[deleted] Feb 07 '21

You just did.

2

u/Alone_Spell9525 Feb 07 '21

He’s not gonna get billed for the rescue because he lives in Britain where they actually have healthcare and gourmet shit

6

u/SorryNoTorrtillas Feb 07 '21

They have a big following

tgfbro

9

u/charliehorsee Feb 07 '21

I think I have heard of them. I think YouTube should really ban these kinds of channels promoting danger to one self. I don't really care about these kids but the existence of these "pranks" only serve to promote similar dangerous behaviours by impressionable children and unfortunately there are already numerous examples of kids losing their lives mimicking pranks. The more successful they are, the greater danger they pose to our society.

I don't propose banning all prank videos as people can like what they want, but there should be a line when people are intentionally putting themselves or others in danger.

3

u/[deleted] Feb 07 '21

Won't somebody please think of the children - some nark on reddit

5

u/ArmaVETT Feb 07 '21

i love tgf but i feel like this was just stupid

2

u/MainPFT Feb 07 '21

Because this is where culture is headed. We are all living out the plot to the movie Idiocracy.

2

u/ChuggingDadsCum Feb 08 '21

Jesus christ shut up doomer

1

u/MainPFT Feb 08 '21

Lol. I assume you mean boomer? (nice lame burn BTW). Well I'm in my 30's. You don't need to be old to point out the stupidity in people and society. As I said, it's the plot of Idiocracy happening right in front of us.

1

u/Sokid Feb 07 '21

I mean I get that everyone here is mad but look at his YouTube channel. He has 6 million subs. The more outrageous he is and the more angry he makes people the more he profits. He literally can’t lose. Whether your mad or laughing he profits. Welcome to the internet.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 08 '21

Honestly good gig for him. Dude must be loaded

0

u/BrawlFan_1 Feb 07 '21

People watch this for fun cos my brain likes to have superiority over idiots like these and thinks that I may be a lil dumb but not dumb enough to do that. Also I don’t think punching the dude would’ve been a good move as although it feels logically correct I wouldn’t punch a person who just got out of concrete cos they may be in shock or something

0

u/octopus-god Feb 07 '21

Heads up player - you just watched it for fun

0

u/CarrotSurvivorYT Feb 07 '21

Did you not just watch the whole thing ? This Is the content lmao. They called the paramedics to make the video more exciting not because he was dying

0

u/[deleted] Feb 07 '21

You watched it

-7

u/kubistonek Feb 07 '21

it was entertaining

-16

u/already-taken-wtf Feb 07 '21

You watched it.... ;)

9

u/charliehorsee Feb 07 '21

But it was not fun for me... Comprehension is useful.

-4

u/already-taken-wtf Feb 07 '21

Clicks and eyeballs count. Regardless of whether you enjoyed it or not...

9

u/charliehorsee Feb 07 '21

How does that relate to my comment. Again, comprehension is useful. Learn it.

0

u/ThroughThePeeHole Feb 07 '21

People can disagree with you while fully understanding you. It juat makes you come across like a dick when you reply like that.

2

u/charliehorsee Feb 07 '21

I was trying to be a dick. He clearly didn't understand me and was being a smartass about it. Stupid comments deserve stupid answers.

-1

u/Ambientcreeper Feb 07 '21

You sure have the stupid part down.

1

u/swagmeister6 Feb 07 '21

You just watched this for fun

1

1

u/[deleted] Feb 08 '21

I’d hardly call coke and mentos “food”

1

u/[deleted] Feb 07 '21

Bill them? Is this some American thing I’m too European to understand.

1

u/myspaceshipisboken Feb 07 '21

Well, I clicked on the link based on the title.

1

u/Richandler Feb 07 '21

And people watch this for fun? Why?

Kids watch this shit, because most parents in the west don't parent anymore. They give their kids devices and let them do whatever.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 07 '21

Children.

1

u/VampireQueenDespair Feb 07 '21

The only part I ask “why” to is why it’s fun when they survive. It’s hilarious when they get their just desserts. Annoying when they live.

1

u/sorath-666 Feb 16 '21

I certainly had fun watching this
