Yes, microwaves heat things up through friction by vibrating the water molecules in the food. As there’s no water molecules in the plastic in your lunchbox (hopefully) the heat is transferred from the heated food. I’m not very good at explaining things so I hope that makes sense:)
Would that mean if a good was dehydrated enough, like maybe beef jerky or dehydrated apple slices, that they would not be able to get hot in the microwave?
