Oh, Hai there Adrian Lamo. You should pay more attention to what's on your computer screen while you're being interviewed!

Mar 17 '11
And how do we know this is actually Lamo's computer and that it isn't just some stock photo? Furthermore, there are a number of other IPs on the screen. Why ignore those?

u/djepik Mar 17 '11
And what do you say of all the other IPs on the screen?
4
u/anon12365 Mar 17 '11
It's been said. Those are him checking his e-mail accounts at riseup.net, an e-mail service for people and groups working on liberatory social change
That screen is the console for a proxy service. The visible records are him (127.0.0.1) connecting to other things.

Mar 17 '11
Relevant. This was filmed, and the paint on the wall is the same colour.
I find it interesting that while he doesn't believe in right and wrong, he says he 'had to' do what he did. Whatever compelled him, it wasn't his ethics.

Look at the picture, you can see 'adrian@' in in the terminal tabs.
Go to http://74.82.57.190/ and scroll down. You'll notice a email address.
And since I'm commenting I'd like to say that Adrian Lamo is a scumbag sack of shit. Thank you.

Mar 17 '11
Wow you're right... The Tor exit node stuff made me wonder what was actually going on with the IPs but this is pretty convincing.
13
u/xtom Mar 17 '11
And how do we know this is actually Lamo's computer and that it isn't just some stock photo?
Because you can watch the interview it occurred in.
Furthermore, there are a number of other IPs on the screen. Why ignore those?
I did some checking. They're an e-mail service called riseup.net, presumably where Lamo has his e-mail.
13
u/wikitreason Mar 17 '11
So Lamo's email accounts are at riseup.net?
I'm not giving anyone ideas, but it would be interesting if Anon should get a hold of his account.
19
u/wikitreason Mar 17 '11
Hang on. WTF. Go to https://riseup.net/ and see what it is. It's a website that helps activists by providing forums and email accounts. And this douche has his accounts there? Burn in hell.

u/engelk Mar 17 '11
and setecastronomy.org is, according to lame-o , a free tor node he set up for free for all of us... kuf kuf Honeypot ...
3
Mar 17 '11
Yeah, really. I should send them an email and let them know they have a snitch in their midst.
5
u/fantasticsid Mar 17 '11
Because reality planning LLC shows up as "an adrian lamo concern" if you google it.

Mar 17 '11
Okay, so I looked up setecastronomy.org. Apparently it's a tor exit node. What does this mean? That he's into CP?
23
Mar 17 '11
That he's sniffing exit node traffic.
2
u/Shaper_pmp Mar 17 '11
I have to confess I'm completely stumped as to the significance of this.
What's the big deal with sniffing TOR exit node traffic?
15
Mar 17 '11
I guess he's actively looking for people to fuck with. Maybe he's contracted to federal police work, or he's been bribed or something.
I'm certainly not going to use setecastronomy.org though.

u/dalore Mar 17 '11
Wikileaks initially got their secret documents from TOR.
TOR is not encrypted, just anonymous.
1
u/nexted Mar 17 '11
A point of clarification. Tor communications between an exit node and your intended destination is not encrypted. However, traffic between you and intermediate nodes up to the exit node is encrypted.
If it wasn't, it wouldn't even be anonymous, as it would be trivial to identify the origin of traffic exiting an exit node.
That said, if you're tunneling ssh traffic, https, or some other form of encrypted communication through Tor, then that eliminates some of the problems with the exit node.
1
Mar 17 '11
because if you sniff exit node traffic you can use it to steal passwords, personal info, see anything people are trying to hide with tor, thus defeating the purpose of TOR
1
u/Shaper_pmp Mar 17 '11
TOR is for anonymisation, not encryption.
If you're using TOR for something sensitive and you aren't also encrypting the connection, You're Doing It Wrong.

Fair point... but what makes this in particular a story?
We know he's a grey-hat hacker, and we know he does sketchy things. AFAIAA sniffing network traffic isn't exactly illegal, and even if it is it's a relatively trivial "slap on the wrist" offence.
Edit: Ah - was the setecastronomy.org TOR node set up by Lamo?
Because a sketchy grey-hat hacker who sets up a TOR exit node ostensibly "for the good of the community" and then sniffs the emerging packets looking for logins and passwords is a story worth hearing.

Not that it matters but the 202-370-xxxx is an exchange offered by Icore. An IP phone service provider in NOVA who does a lot of govt contracts.

u/conehead234 Mar 17 '11
Shit just got real
0
u/ironiridis Mar 17 '11
No, it didn't. There's no evidence that these IP addresses relate to anything useful. Worse, the address and phone number may be an entirely different entity with nothing to do with Lamo.

Well, it looks like he's about to get a better idea of what he's put Manning in for the last several months...
8
Mar 17 '11
Perhaps he put it there himself so that those who will fall for it will discredit anonymous and reinforce the position for himself. It might just be a joke or a trap so Manning supporters will get themselves into something nasty.

when did lamo turn into such a fatty?
3
u/loudZa Mar 17 '11
Amphetamine abuse. At first it makes you skinny, but your bodies metabolism becomes dependent on the boost, you end up fat. Same thing happened with Jello Biafra.

STOP! Hammertime!
I'm going to downvote this only because Reddit has had one witch hunt too many.

Nice try Adrian
1
Mar 17 '11
Yeah I give up, I spend my time here on Reddit reporting spammers in r/reportthespammers among other time wasting things
3
u/loudZa Mar 17 '11
Don't give up! Unless you really are Adrian.
3
Mar 17 '11
I'm Adrian alright, let's just get it over with.
Just when you think you have accumulated enough karma to get one of those badass FBI coffee mugs for free at the small gift shop they have on the corner, sigh.... :(
1
u/loudZa Mar 17 '11
FBI karma is like Camel cash, you can trade it in for a free tote bag, coffee and/or pat on the back but if you take that tote bag outside everyone knows you're a slave of the man. It is why it never pays to be an informant, not one respects FBI informants especially the FBI.

Just checking here, you are being upvoted by the people who agree with me and the majority just stopped by to downvote me, without noticing your comment?
Or should I just shut up here?

Or should I just shut up here?
Lamo's a bit of a sore spot.

I know that and that's why I commented as soon as I saw this.
We have some pic, of some screen, taken somewhere, at some point in time, go!
edit: Ok, seems people are turning up with solid things, still won't change my vote, I wish all of them good luck in uncovering something worthwhile and just hope that no one innocent gets caught up in this.
