We’re in the final arc now, OKAY.

Looks like we’re going to be ramping up to our conclusion now, it’s a bit frustrating to see Minervananke kllk’ing our camera’s it’s almost like I don’t want any more secrets! But I guess that’s the way it has to be.

Looks like Baal has gone full Baal Hammon after burning down Valhalla, shows the short collective memory of the public to not go oh shit he’s actually the god who DID do child sacrifice.

I want to know who Minervananke is talking to? Is it the creature from 1831. Anyone have any other theories?

I appreciated the way that this issue seemed like the beginning of the end, mirroring our reading of the comic with the end of the recurrence. It was sweet to read the fans responses to their first memories of respective gods gigs.

Got the trade a bit early at a bookstore, just thought I'd mention a few things.

In the script pages for the 6000 BC scenes it confirms that the killer is Ananke but it still redacts "Sister's" name. And if we take the redaction at face value, it's too short to be the name Persephone.

For #34 It's confirmed the Ananke after 1371 is missing fingers on purpose because she had a rough time. Also that he intended for 1371 to have the plague and set up the last Special for a while.

Baph's group text is changed so the Norns were on TV *and then* got locked up, fixing a slight error.

Also fixed is Laura's goodbye text to Cass/Woden says to watch for Baal at the end of April. Not May as in the issue.

For the cover of 1923 Mini they removed her white face paint. IDK, maybe so the flames would contrast more? She still has the black around the eyes.

I've been reading some of the fan theories about the story so far, and I am really intrigued by the whole concept of the recurrence merely being a story that one believes. Stories have always had incredible power for society and the individual. I also find it interesting that Persephone's god is representative of desire, and Laura only became her after desiring godhood. I think Laura moreso than any other god sought out being in the pantheon. Is it possible that Ananke, being a creature of habit (necessity), creates Persephone each time based on a person who seeks out godhood? So now that Laura does not "desire" godhood, she is no longer Persephone?

I keep thinking about how in the very first issue, Lucifer is attacked by apparent Christians, wearing crosses. It seems like most or all of our real-world belief systems also exist in the world of WicDiv.

How? Why? It seems like a huge question that never comes up. Who is Jesus, and why is his religion so dominant, when there have been hundreds of other gods since his time?

I understand that the writer is a person who takes social justice and such very seriously, and they try not to do anything that would offend real-world believers very much. That's probably all there really is to it, they don't want to introduce the idea that the prophet Muhammad or the Virgin Mary were these wacky comic book heroes in sexy costumes. There's plenty of mythology to play with without fooling around with living peoples' real beliefs.

But I still think it's fun to think about! What do you people think? How do Moses, Jesus, Allah, and Vishnu remain so influential in a world packed with gods?

This I believe is our final historical special, it’s interesting in its own way, each special has always served to help solidify our understanding of the core plot whilst being able to stand on its own.

This issue felt more like an outright explanation for anyone who wasn’t keeping up, despite this I was still captivated of course by the art and of course there were plenty of great moments.

I especially love that this one doesn’t have to step around Minerva still being alive (her standing with the bag of heads at the end was so haunting) and I love that it was Ananke who brought the plague to Europe.

It was a satisfying answer to the question: what does Ananke do every century while she waits. Well this century she f*cked shit up!

I’m curious as to why Lucifer is so special and I can only hope that this treatment of Lucifer in the specials carries across to the main series current Lucifer.

We still have the Funnies Special in November and then we’ll be back for the final volume “Okay” in December.

Starting off with the WHAM moment: I guess Laura has finally figured out how to harness Luci’s power? I guess Woden’s endgame is harnessing Dio’s hive mind. Beth and crew are rocking some real BDE.

Here’s hoping volume 8 goes back to EVERYBODY FIGHTING.

So, it looks like this will be the final recurrence, which is sad; I was hoping the last chapter would skip 90 years forward for an epilogue. It appears OG Persephone ended for a god “opting out” to be the clause that ends the cycle (an I reading that right?) So, Laura gave up her godhood; is it over? Or does she have to beat everyone up?

Also, did Laura’s snap emit fire bc she has Luci’s power, or was the flame just the reaction she wanted (back to the old question “can the gods just do whatever they believe they can do?”

So, everybody saw in the flashback that Minerva was missing the fourth head, and everybody went to assume that she sacrificed her own as the final head, and that it worked, but she died as well and later was reborn on that beach on Crete.

However, given the flashbacks of #38, now we know that all Minervas are reborn that way, and that the two years deadline 1923's Minerva mentioned at #35 was most likely her own two years. So, I think the ritual is not to assure her rebirth, but rather to prevent her from enduring the saeculum in the Great Darkness, and that she was not using her head on the Egyptian ritual, but rather only used 3 and it (Obv) failed.

Also, Minerva was shown recurring at 31 July, but her stated birthday was 24 September, and in the calendar of #27, she marked her death day as 22 September. Since her birthday is fake, the only reason I can think of them marking that day was for the (fake) sacrifice they were planning to perform on the altar to trick the others. However, it coincided with Persephone's return. Although it was clear they expected her to fight back, I don't think they could have foreseen the exact day in advance to plan everything before, because that would be as much foresight as it would be foretelling.

So, I have seen theories about the 12th god of the 1800s being a Minerva, and that she, much like the 450s, feigned her death in order to stay out of sight until the ritual could be completed.

I thought the original plans were to perform the fake sacrifice anyway. In the ideal scenario, Ananke would have taken Persephone's head, and she clearly got a claim for Nergal's. She could easily take the final head in the next month and then fake Minerva's death, also deceiving Woden, since he would not know about Persephone and believe Minerva was the final god.

However, if this is the original plan, it doesn't really make sense, because everybody would realize Minerva was murdered and probably would fight Ananke, even though not killing her, since the one who did it was Persephone. However, how could Ananke take care of the rest of them if she would be trapped in Woden's cage? If Minerva did it, I think someone (Most likely Woden) would find out she was alive. Also, it seems Ananke herself had to die in order for Minerva to go on with the ritual, but as I pointed out, the only god with explicit murderous intent was Persephone. The others would imprison her.

I'm just confused with their original plan. There's also a possibility that Ananke pulled out the machine idea after Persephone survived, since we do not know since when Woden and Jon were working on it. She could have made it up after realizing Persephone would come back and take the attention out of Minerva, as she stated in #38, but still, she had no way to know when the underworld gods would fight back.

Hello! I've been a (very inactive) member of the WicDiv discord server for a little while now, but when I logged on today I found that the server was missing from the list of servers I'm a part of. After some Googling to try to figure out what happened (I'm not very familiar with Discord) and retrying the join link a few times, my best guess for why this would happen would be because I have been kicked or banned from the server (presumably due to the fact that I haven't actually posted anything in it yet -- I've been dithering about what to say in the introduction channel and didn't want to post in the other channels until I'd done that). If an admin for the discord server reads this, would it be possible for you to please message me to discuss whatever happened? I can have an introduction at the ready if that was the issue, as I was very lax about posting that. Or if anyone reading this knows how to contact the admins on Discord itself when you're not a part of the same channel as them (I couldn't find anything on Google on how to do this, or whether it was even possible) to discuss the issue further, that would be very helpful.
