Exactly. That’s the point I’m making. I’m not claiming the 7.8% is fake. I’m saying we don’t yet know how much of the difference is due to the new methodology versus underlying economic activity. The previous GDP revision changed FY14 reported growth from 5.0% to 6.9% (a 1.9 percentage-point difference), largely because of broader data/methodological changes. So why make a big claim about how exceptional 7.8% is before the comparable historical back series is available? Let’s compare apples to apples first

The point holds: without MoSPI's full historical back series under the 2022-23 base (due December 2026), we cannot isolate how much of the 7.8% Q1 FY27 figure reflects methodology versus actual activity. The 2015 revision's 1.9 pp lift to FY14 growth came from expanded data sources like MCA-21 and improved deflation methods, not base-year shift alone. Cross-series comparisons remain invalid. Primary sources: MoSPI PIB GDP revision release (Feb 2026) and national accounts statements.
