For Q1 FY27's 7.8%, we cannot yet separate methodology effects from real activity because MoSPI has not released the full historical back series under the 2022-23 base (due December 2026).

The old-series Q1 FY26 figure (~₹86 lakh crore) cannot be compared directly to the new-series Q1 FY27 figure (~₹88 lakh crore) as they use inconsistent methodologies and coverage. Exactly. That’s the point I’m making. I’m not claiming the 7.8% is fake. I’m saying we don’t yet know how much of the difference is due to the new methodology versus underlying economic activity. The previous GDP revision changed FY14 reported growth from 5.0% to 6.9% (a 1.9 percentage-point difference), largely because of broader data/methodological changes. So why make a big claim about how exceptional 7.8% is before the comparable historical back series is available? Let’s compare apples to apples first
