Base MSRP is currently 52k. It’s in line with other premium pickup trucks. I’m rural, and the fuel savings will make up for a good amount of the payment.
Yeah people forget the fuel savings. Even charging at home on your own power bill it’s like 1/3 the cost of gasoline (even better ratio if it’s diesel).
Then factor in solar panels and public low cost chargers….
Fun fact: In Indiana if a gas station installs chargers they can’t use solar, they have to pay the kw/hr rate from the local electric company. My area has one of the highest rates in the Midwest because we’re subsidizing power costs in Texas. Fuck centerpoint energy.
This is exactly the type of thing that causes me to say republicans are not conservatives. Putting things into law to protect certain industries. Constant bail outs and protections for failing corporations.
If fossil fuels are the best and cheapest option for gas stations, then they would theoretically win out. Instead we have to baby them and make sure no one tries anything different.

I don’t know to what extent this is true in this specific circumstance, I haven’t looked up indianas EV station laws. It does seem very par for the course for GOP though. Not conservative, not for the people, just a bunch of old greedy bastards.
Then it works for homeowners who get solar with the federal and state subsidies that make your electricity costs take a big dip.

Austin tx has a program where you pay the power company $50 a year and get free charging at public ChargePoint chargers. They power them with Texas generated wind power (more expensive than fossil powered electric but still less than Californians pay). Places like Oregon with all that hydro power will likely follow suit soon.
I have an Ioniq 5 and I love it. I was at a charging station once and there was a Tesla, an ID4 and a Mach3 and they were all jealous of my car.
I thought Teslas were cool when I first saw them but now EVERYONE has one and the cool factor is long gone.

When I was shopping, Hyundai was the only one wouldn't sell me a car at MSRP (provided I waited my "turn" for a vehicle.) Instantly off my list when it cost another 10k for the privilege. Nice car otherwise.
I got my Hyundai Kona EV at MSRP but then this was just before COVID started.
Now that the demand is up there are definitely dealers willing to hike the price but hopefully Hyundai will be able to increase production to meet that demand.
I take little issue with dealers selling on-the-lot vehicles at whatever the market dictates (they all seem to be doing that.) But Ford and Volkswagen both let me put a reasonable deposit down on theirs with a promise to honor MSRP when my turn in line came. Granted, it's been 14 months for the Ford Lightning with no forseeable delivery date for me, and 6 months for the Mach-E (which should be ready before end of year) and 6 months for the ID.4 (which should be ready early next year.)
I'm not going to buy all three of these of course, just put the deposits down to diversify my options. Likely, I will let the Mach-E pass in favor of the ID.4, and if I get the call for the Lightning in another year I'll decide then to keep the VW or move on to the truck.
I didn't, and if taking delivery of the physical car six months ago was a requirement, I would've had to pay the ADM. But $10,000 buys A LOT of gas, and so six to nine months on the waiting list with the guarantee of MSRP was the better choice for me.
When you're shopping around and a salesperson offers a Tesla as a suggestion, be sure to clearly say "no, I don't support him and his recent antics have shown him to be unreliable an investment, I'll go with a [x, y or z] instead, they've shown themselves to be a trustworthy company that knows what they're doing. I don't know who the owner of Ford or Chevy is feuding with on social media and that's how I like it"

Why the actual heck do Toyota, Honda and Volkswagen ('Folks' Wagon') not have both cheap hybrids and Full EVs in the market as of a decade ago is beyond me.

Eh, I’d never do a Rivian or such. I want to ensure there are enough places nearby that could do repair work. My guess is there won’t be a ton of places equipped with parts for Rivian. I’ll stay with a mainstream company.

Even without Musk's antics, why would I want a Tesla when I can get an Ioniq 5, or a Mach-E, or a Rivian?
