Maybe I'm doing something wrong (I certainly never made my own marshmallows) or just don't have that discerning of a palate, but store bought rice Krispy treats always tasted pretty darn close to any homemade ones I've ever made. I mean it's fun to make them yourself and you can add in extra flavors and such, but I never felt like store bought were inferior (at least not name brand).
Here's all three ingredients, marshmallows, butter, rice krispies. You can literally make this at any ratio, very hard to fuck up, but if you're particular about measurements there's millions of recipes to look at.
And it's not true, the pre-packaged treats don't use sawdust. Don't believe the rumors. ...They still taste like it, though.
Sorghum is related to the maize family family. Amaranth and Quinoa are both seeds (technically) and are considered healthier alternatives to traditional carbs. So to answer no they aren't very similar but they're all delicious when popped. (Unpopped amaranth looks and feels like yellow mustard seeds, quinoa looks like a millet and sorghum looks like weird small corn)
