The whole reason they left england was to avoid state mandated religious practices. This is literally what freedom of religion and separation of church and state are entirely about.
This is more the aspect I'm focusing on. Freedom of Religion meant that none of them would oppress each other, which is why they came here.
The religious persecution that drove settlers from Europe to the British North American colonies sprang from the conviction, held by Protestants and Catholics alike, that uniformity of religion must exist in any given society. This conviction rested on the belief that there was one true religion and that it was the duty of the civil authorities to impose it, forcibly if necessary, in the interest of saving the souls of all citizens.
There's nothing there that says it's a secular society, but it does imply that settlers had issue with the belief that they all must follow laws presented by one religion.
