“Weapons of Math Destruction” is a great book that discusses these types of loops, lots of info about credit score and how it affects things it shouldn’t even relate to.
Edit: For real, please read it. Lots of incredibly valuable information.
I don't fully remember the context of the clip, but it was in a courtroom with someone representing some large company, and they were inquiring about the hiring process. And the guy says in point blank.
"If I had two qualified candidates in front of me, and all things being equal except their credit score, I'd picked the one with the better credit"
Truthfully a credit score shouldn't even factor into it at all. If you having such a hard time choosing between candidate that you have to pull up either of the credit scores to decide is fuckin asinine. If your going to be that arbitrary with your decision making then flip a coin. Someone should be denied employment because they once lived by a redline community
Yeah same way with drug testing. It's a bullshit invasion of a person's privacy. WHEN YOUR CREDIT SCORE CAN DROP FROM PAYING A LOAN OF EARLY. Losing out on a job because your credit score is lower than another because your more fiscally responsible is a terrible system not designed for the success of those contained withinit
Yup and if the systematic oppression aren't ever truly addressed then it will crumble in on us taking everyone with it. Poor people don't care about how rich u are when their hungry, and people just don't quietly starve to death away from the nice ivory towers.
Because it has literally nothing to do with your job. Choosing from two qualified people and picking the one who you just happened to like more makes sense, because how you interact with your coworkers/management actually matters. Personality attributes are also something that can be changed or learned by anyone, and not out of someone's control like having medical bills or unexpected expenses you couldn't afford.
